Live Video: Death By Stereo cover Slayer’s song “Raining Blood”

Hardcore punk band Death By Stereo covered Slayer’s song “Raining Blood” while performing at the House Of Blues in San Diego, CA. Here’s what the band had to say: “R.I.P. Jeff Hanneman. You will be missed eternally. Here is our humble tribute to you and your amazing band. We still can’t wrap our heads around the fact that you are gone. Your influence is infinite, no compromise as a way of life. Thanks for the heavy tunes man. You made us all want to smash our skateboards through windows and yell “SLAYER!!!” out at shows, in parking lots, at people, at the world.

You can check out their cover here.

The band released their latest album, Black Sheep of the American Dream,” in April 2012 through Viking Funeral Records.

Parkway Drive working on new album

Fans of Australian hardcore band Parkway Drive can expect some new material soon via Epitaph Records.  The band has announced they have entered the studio to begin recording their yet-to-be-titled fourth album, and the follow-up to 2010’s Deep Blue, via Resist Records.

The band will be working with producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Terror) on this album.  Here’s what vocalist Winston McCall had to say about what fans can expect:

“Well, I think that out of all our records this one’s probably going to shock people the most, because there are some things in here that…[pauses] I don’t think it’s big changes to the Parkway Drive sound, but we’re going to add stuff to the sound that people would never expect. On Deep Blue, we experimented with a couple of new things in small doses to see if they worked–and they did. So this time around we said, “Okay, if that worked, we can do it to a larger degree, and we can do it in more places, and do it with more instruments and more voices.”

If you can’t wait to hear this album, you’ll have to hang tight for just a little while longer.  The band expects to release the album before the end of 2012.

If you want some Parkway Drive stuff to get you through that time, why not check out their “Home For The Heartless” DVD?

Random Cover Song Thursday: Bigwig covers Slayer’s “War Ensemble”

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.  We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs.  Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs.  Good or bad.  Intriguing or mundane.  We’ll let you be the judge. This week it’s New Jersey hardcore punk act Bigwig covering Slayer‘s “War Ensemble.”

The cover appears on the “Punk Goes Metal” comp while the original appears on Slayer’s album “Seasons in the Abyss.” Check out the cover and original right here. Rock your Friday like I would! Your ears will thank you.
