DS Photo Gallery: Motoblot 2019 – with The Tossers, 88 Fingers Louie, The Crombies and more

Vice Tricks

The 6th Annual Motoblot Motorcycle and Hot Rod Street Rally took place June 20th to June 23rd 2019 in Chicago. According to Larry Fletcher, the event’s owner and producer, “the weekend was Awesome. We broke attendance records on Friday and Saturday. Estimated 20K for the weekend. Over 1000 bikes over the weekend. If it had to rain… We were stoked it held off to Sunday. Attendees had a blast regardless of the weather. MOTOBLOT continues to grow every year and the feedback is universally positive. Attendees say it is their favorite weekend of the year!”

Due to passport issues, Sham 69 had to dropout of their scheduled appearance at the event. Guttermouth was to tour with Sham 69 on its swing through the States this summer so the California punks also backed out of Motoblot weekend as well. Two Chicago based bands stepped in at the last minute. The”Crombies and 88 Fingers were total gamers and happy to jump in to help us out,” said Fletcher. As The Crombies lead singer Mike Park was recovering from gall bladder surgery, the band brought a life size cutout of Park to accompany a rotating group of singers, including some who spontaneously jumped on to the stage.

The Crombies.

Along with The Tossers, The Crombies; and 88 Fingers Louie, the weekend’s lineup included among others: Vice Tricks, Aweful, Super Sonic Space Rebels, Julia Haltigan & The Hooligans, The Detroit Cobras, The Krank Daddies, The Evictions, Slutter (all female Kiss Tribute band); and London Calling (“The Only The Clash Cover Band That Matters.”)

Joy Opposites release new EP “Bad Phase”

Joy Opposites, made up of Adam Graham (formerly of FACT (Japan)) and Imran Siddiqi (formerly of The Amity Affliction (Australia)), have released a brand new EP with the name Bad Phase. You can listen to it below.

The EP features 3 new tracks, and 4 covers of musicians that have shaped their sound over the years. You can find the tracklist below the stream. Bad Phase sees the band head in a new direction lyrically, as well as further exploring the sound of their last full length Find Hell.

On the change, Adam stated: ““Lyrically, these songs deal with societal issues more than personal ones. Both of us have been strongly affected by how the world is changing and how things are spiraling out of control. Our first album was recorded in California – Summer 2016 – pre-Trump and pre-Brexit. So much has changed since then. Divisions between people are getting wider and wider. Our governments, religions and corporations are doing whatever they can to make this worse because that is how they profit … and we’re falling for it. Honestly, it was quite a challenge for me to write about a certain subject rather than about a feeling since my lyrics are generally quite stream-of-consciousness, so this was something new.”

DS Exclusive: Filthy Hearts (ffo: Against Me!) stream new single, “Ambulatory”

Filthy Hearts out of Denver, CO have a jaw-dropping new banger of a track they are releasing with Dying Scene today. They are a group of rogue punk rock beer warriors featuring ex-members of The Larimers and The A-OKs who are looking to take over the world with the sounds of a bedside battle ax, and a dissenting sentiment or three. Since the band’s onset in 2016 with the release of I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead (Inside) they’ve graced the ineffable stages of such DS favorites as The Lillingtons and Murderburgers, and caught the interest of Hidden Home Records who is putting out Filthy Hearts’ debut LP Beyond Repair this coming August 30th. No pre-orders available yet, but keep an eye out for packages dropping somewhere on the interwebs soon. (probably here) If you’re in Denver, then be shure and check out the pre-release party later this week on July 13 at The Moon Room, where a limited number of CD’s will be available for ONE TIME ONLY before the official release date.

And what’s this song that we are talking about anyway? But, of course! It’s called “Ambulatory”, and you can stream that track below.

From the band: “Ambulatory is about the struggle of becoming a better person. It’s about how you have to let things go and do things differently because it’s such a waste of time to be bitter and hateful. It’s about bettering yourself among people who may not want to change and so you have to let them go. I just don’t want to be bitter and mean my whole life and that’s something I have struggled with in the past.”

Down I Go (Experimental / Hardcore) release surprise EP, “All Down the Church in Midst of Fire the Hellish Monster Flew, and Passing Onward to the Quire, He Many People Slew”

Inimitable UK experimental hardcore trio Down I Go have released a surprise new EP.

Thef tracker carries the catchy monicker of “All Down the Church in Midst of Fire the Hellish Monster Flew, and Passing Onward to the Quire, He Many People Slew”, and tackles “shadowy figures of death from around the world” (the band have previously taken on the likes of Greek Gods and Tyrants on their releases).

It further cements their status as a cult UK band, and is well worth checking out if you like your punk conceptual and off-the-wall.

Check out the EP using the player below.

The Casualties release video for “Borders”

The Casualties have released a video for anti-Trump track “Borders”, a song from last year’s Written In Blood.

The band on the video: “This is a stripped-down video from our hearts that cuts to the bone. We wanted to show the band in our most raw form and give the viewer an idea of the different faces that this ‘border issue’ affects. Also, we’re not holding back on how we feel about Trump. This is lyrical machine gun fire pointed right between the eyes of this asshole and anyone who follows him! The video is visually and musically a protest song of our generation and we’ve had enough! Fuck your President and fuck your wall.” Have a watch below.

DS Exclusive: Diablogato (Rockabilly) stream new single, “Boston Blood, Memphis Heart”

Boston rockabilly outfit Diablogato just signed with State Line Records to release their sophomore album, Old Scratch, which is due out on August 23 on CD, vinyl, and digital formats. They’ve joined with us at Dying Scene, today, to give all you lovely readers a quick sneak peak at the wholesome goodness that awaits with an Old Scratch order – details on that, they promise will be available soon. Until then we’ll just have to satiate our palates with the brand new song, “Boston Blood, Memphis Heart”, streaming exclusively below.

Here’s a great tune that’s just as much country and americana as rockabilly punk. It pulls at the heartstrings of those storied roads crisscrossing America with vibrant harp and big bodied tremelo, canonical click clacking of the upright bass in tangent with the euphonious howls of a grizzled punk rock lifer into a 50’s-style Unidyne microphone pressing the urgent necessity, “Johnny don’t you worry, Johnny don’t you fret. The road’s been paved with… hard work, blood and sweat. When I look into the future the darkness settles in, in a fight that lasts forever and a war that noone wins. So, get on up. Get on up. If you fall down, boy, you gotta’ get back up!”

“Boston Blood, Memphis Heart” is a warm-bodied singalong that goes well with train hoppin’, slinking around the bayou, or cruising off in you shiny white-walled rat rod for fans of Social Distortion, Kings of Nuthin‘ and The Living End. It was recorded at Mad Oak Studios in Allston, MA, and produced and engineered by Benny Grotto along with the rest of the album.

Old Scratch consists of seven hits including two covers in which Diablogato gets to show off their Boston heritage, and I think I’ll just leave the reader guessing on those two for awhile. Be sure and add this band to your radar as they are sure to play a show near you in the near future. Devil Cat’s on the prowl. Yikes!
