Deryck Whibley comments on Stevo’s departure from Sum 41

Sum 41 frontman, Deryck Whibley recently discussed the departure of longtime drummer, Steve Jocz from the band. You can read the full interview here.

When asked why Stevo left, Whibley said, You would have to ask him. I won’t speak on anyone’s behalf. All i can say is, in life nothing stays the same forever. Even if it’s unfortunate. Things change people grow. Different responsibilities and goals become a factor in your decision making. At the end of the day you have to do what is best for you in your heart.

Sum 41 parts ways with Stevo

Sad news from the Sum 41 camp. Founding member and drummer Stevo has announced that he has decided to leave the band. No specific reasons were cited in his announcement, which was made via Facebook. Here’s his full statement:

I’m sorry to announce that I’ve decided to leave Sum 41.

Touring with the band has been an amazing experience that has taken us far beyond our old practice space in my parent’s basement to countless countries around the world. I’ve had the opportunity to see and experience so much and for that I am truly grateful.

I just want to thank all of our fans for making the last 17 years possible. I had a blast.

Thanks again,

Sum 41’s last release with Stevo on drums was 2011’s Screaming Bloody Murder on Island Records.

Sum 41 drop off Canadian tour w/ Billy Talent due to medical issues

Sum 41 have announced that, due to certain recurring medical issues, they will be forced to drop off their current Canadian tour with Billy Talent. Here’s a statement from the band:

“We are saddened to pass on the news that Deryck Whibley is struggling once again with his recurring back problems and so SUM 41 has made the tough decision of having to leave the Canadian Tour for the remaining shows. Those shows include Quebec City, Ottawa, Montreal, Moncton and Halifax.

Sum 41 are no strangers to the transpiration of events such as these taking place, considering they’ve cancelled a handful of tours due to Deryck’s back problems in the past, so this news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Sum 41 planning to release new album this year

Sum 41 fans can expect to see a new release from the band before the year is out.  At least according to an interview they recently did with The Music Express.  Here’s the most important quote:
