Interview: Matt (Set Your Goals) talks about Warped Tour, new album and more

Vocalist Matt Wilson from San Francisco punk act Set Your Goals was recently did an interview in which he discussed the band’s upcoming “Burning at Both Ends,” Warped Tour, favorite bands, fake mustaches, video games and more. Watch the interview here.

H2O, Set Your Goals, Travis Barker to perform at One Life One Chance benefit

As we mentioned awhile ago, H2O‘s Toby Morse heads up an organization called One Life One Chance that is aimed at keeping kids away from drugs and alcohol. He’s had some help from Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, who has donated instruments to various schools for the organization.

Now they’re putting on a benefit show at the Roxy in Hollywood. H2O, Set Your Goals and Touche Amore will perform, and Barker will appear along with Alkaline Trio‘s Matt Skiba and New Found Glory‘s Chad Gilbert.

Set Your Goals finish recording

San Francisco punk act Set Your Goals have announced via tweet that they have finished recording their new album ‘Burning On Both Ends.’ The announcement reads as follows:

“That’s a wrap. The record is done and we can’t wait for you guys to hear it. We are very excited on the new jams. Time to Gig.”

This will be the band’s second release on Epitaph to date, following their 2009 release ‘This Will Be The Death Of Us.’

The band is expecting an ‘early summer’ release date. Stay posted for news on the release.



Vans Warped Tour 2011 announces more bands: Set Your Goals, The Dance Party, MC Lars & others

The Vans Warped Tour has announced more bands to the popular festival’s 2011 incarnation. Abandon All Ships, MC Lars, Set Your Goals, The Dance Party, I Set My Friends On Fire and Foxy Shazam have now been officially added to the tour’s expanding line-up.

The band will be touring the U.S. with Parkway Drive, The Ghost Inside and The Warriors next spring.

According to a tweet from the band, the boys are back together after Christmas weekend and have begun tracking for the new record.

Why did they choose the name Set Your Goals?

Ever wonder where some bands come up with their band names?  Well, we do, and we’re sick of sitting around scratching our heads about it.  We’re hitting the streets (aka. “Internet”) to find the origins behind some of the more bizarre, intriguing or just plain random band names in the scene.  Every Wednesday we’ll be pulling the curtain back on a different musician and this week it’s San Francisco punk act Set Your Goals.

This one is simple and straight forward.  According the the band, the name Set Your Goals is derived from the title of the 1995 melodic hardcore album of the same name released by the band Civ.  Remember Civ?  They were awesome!



Set Your Goals enter studio, begin work on third full-length

A couple of months ago we wrote an update Set Your Goals stating that the band was set to enter the studio in October. Well, the band is officially in the studio now where they’re working on their third full-length release. The band find themselves in Maryland at Brian McTernan’s Salad Day Studios. McTernan previously worked with Senses Fail, The Movielife, and Circa Survive.

Although there’s no official release date set, the album is anticipated to drop early 2011 on Epitaph Records. Stay tuned for more information!

In a recent not-yet-released interview, Set Your Goals stated that they plan to enter the studio in October with the hopes of completing recording the new album by the end of the year.

Seahaven releasing “Ghost” EP, streaming 2 new tracks

Los Angeles based progressive punk act, Seahaven, have recently signed to Creator-Destructor Records and announced that they will be releasing their debut EP, Ghost, with the label on May 25th.

Set Your Goals announce tour

setyourgoals1Starting April 16th, Set Your Goals will be kicking off their headlining tour with Comeback Kid, Title Fight, The Wonder Years, This Time Next Year, and a few others. Set Your Goals re-join AP Fall Ball October 10th

epitaph48Due to some recent health issues with one of their bandmates, Set Your Goals has dropped off the AP Fall Ball tour for the next 8 stops but will return on October 10th. They had this to say about the issue:

“We wanted to let everyone know that everything is back on track and our bandmate is on the road to recovery. Set Your Goals will be joining up with the Alternative Press Fall Ball Tour on 10/10 in Chico, CA and we honestly can’t wait. We wanted to say thanks to all of you that have sent your thoughts and well wishes during this time. The truth is we could never repay your for all of your support and are looking forward to getting out there and playing for all of you. Big thanks also goes out to everyone at Alternative Press and our label, Epitaph, for their assistance and understanding in dealing with this situation. See you soon!”
