Green Day to be inducted to Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame by Fall Out Boy

We’ve known since December that 1990s pop-punk stalwarts Green Day are headed to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, and now we know who will be inducting said Bay Area three-piece into said Hall of Fame. That honor(?) has been bestowed upon…Fall Out Boy. Sounds about right, I guess…

Today also brought with it the announcement that Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Patti Smith, Peter Wolf, John Mayer and Steve Cropper will be joining Pete Wentz & Company as the other inductors, and they’ll be inducting Ringo Starr, Bill Withers, Lou Reed, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan and The “5” Royales, in that order. For whatever reason, event organizers didn’t announce who’d be inducting Joan Jett and The Blackhearts into the Hall. Weird.

The 2015 Hall Of Fame induction ceremony takes place April 18th at Cleveland’s Public Hall, and it’ll air on HBO on May 30th.

Schneider says that he and Armstrong “want to be a shop for musicians,” adding that the focus of Broken Guitars’ inventory will be used American guitars. The store’s target audience is players on a budget, so the instruments will generally range in price from $400 to $800.

Mike Dirnt (Green Day) producing upcoming indie film

This looks interesting. Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt along with the band’s longtime manager Pat Magnarella are producing the upcoming indie film “Crickets” together.

One, an aspiring stand-up comic, is dying of a terminal illness. He asks his brother, a depressed office drone, for one last request: to go on stage and perform his material for him to see if he ever really had talent. What he doesn’t reveal, though, is that he has an even bigger surprise in store

“EAST BAY: By the Punx, For the Punx, About the Punx” documentary in the works

Green Day is currently directing and producing a documentary about the punk scene in East Bay between the years of 1980 and 1994.

“In the mid 1980s, on the eastern shores of the San Francisco Bay, a fuse was lit. As the shadows of the 1960s counterculture gave way to the Reagan 80s, disillusioned kids growing up in Berkeley and its surrounding suburbs discovered punk rock… and each other. Together, with amplifiers, copy machines and hearts blazing, they fought to carve out a movement of their own, and changed music, art and literature forever.

EAST BAY: By the Punx, For the Punx, About the Punx is the story of how the East Bay’s unique and thoughtful style of punk rock arose, sending out ripples from the incredibly diverse community of misfits that banded together around Berkeley’s 924 Gilman. Today, the world at large knows about some of the bands who emerged from this scene like Green Day, Rancid & AFI, but their success is just the tip of the iceberg; the roots of this inspiring story go deep into the underground.”

The people working on the project are looking for video footage, flyers, and photos from the time to feature in the documentary. You can find more details on the project and how to submit material here.
