Alkaline Trio tribute album on its way

Fans simply cannot get enough of Alkaline Trio, and neither can Pacific Ridge Records. The label is currently in cahoots with many bands to release an Alkaline Trio tribute alnbum, which will feature bands such as Ace Enders, The Wonder Years, and Allister.

Pacific Ridge are also giving the opportunity for lesser-know bands to imitate their idols with a Kickstarter page, where the label hope to raise the funds to release the album. The page also tracks the progress of the album, which appears to be steadily progressing towards the label’s goals. However, the project will only continue if the goals are met before March 1st, 4:00pm EST.

Pacific Ridge currently have 21 backers and a little over $775 out of the required $1,500 minimum.

DS Exclusive: Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio) talks music: past, present and country

Alkaline Trio are a band old enough to be my little brother and sometimes it has felt like they were.  I mean, in a way where I could give them a poke here and there but at the end of the day, I’d still love them.  They’ve got seven studio albums to their name, a million air miles and a creative spark to their work that makes it never grow old.  Before they head to Australia as part of the No Sleep Til festival, the band have been taking a little break, recharging their batteries and generally getting things done.  Bassist, Dan Andriano spoke to me from his home in Florida about “This Addiction” and the band who has always tried to get their problems off their chest.  “Better out than in” appears to be the motto and a good one at that.

Random Cover Song Thursday: Alkaline Trio covers Hot Water Music’s “Rooftops”

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.  We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs.  Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs.  Good or bad.  Intriguing or mundane.  We’ll let you be the judge.

This week it’s Alkaline Trio covering Hot Water Music‘s “Rooftops.”  The cover appears on a split CD between the bands that was put out in 2002.  You can stream both the original song and the cover version right here.

Video Tour Update: What does Alkaline Trio do with free time on Warped Tour?

For the bands, Warped Tour isn’t all about rocking on stage.  Between sets and between towns there is actually a LOT of downtime and if you’ve ever wondered to yourself what Alkaline Trio does with that time, then this video is for you.  According to drummer Derek Grant, you either get yourself into trouble or you photoshop.  He chose photoshop.  Co-singers Matt and Dan made other choices though.  Check out what in this mildly entertaining tour video update.

Alkaline Trio’s latest release This Addiction was released in February on Heart & Skull Records.

Why did they choose the name Alkaline Trio?

Ever wonder where some bands come up with their band names? Well, we do, and we’re sick of sitting around scratching our heads about it. We’re hitting the streets (aka. “Internet”) to find the origins behind some of the more bizarre, intriguing or just plain random band names in the scene. Every Wednesday we’ll be pulling the curtain back on a different band and this week it’s pop-punk legends Alkaline Trio.

You know the band.  But you probably don’t know the reasoning behind the band name.  But hat might be in part, because there is no reasoning.  There were three founding members of the band (Matt Skiba, Rob Doran, and Glenn Porter) hence the “Trio” but the first part of the band name is completely arbitrary.  Matt Skiba decided he needed to find a cool work to stick in front of the “Trio” so he just picked up a dictionary and started flipping.  He didn’t need to get much further than halfway through the “A”s before stumbling across “Alkaline”.  He tried it out… “Alkaline… Trio”…  It sounded pretty cool and BAM! – band name born!

Fun Factoid Friday: Dan Andriano’s musical career before Alkaline Trio

Every Friday the punk rock geniuses here at Dying Scene are going to unleash a little bit of punk scene trivia all over your asses. Today’s “fun factoid” is about the illustrious musical career of Alkaline Trio bassist/co-vocalist, Dan Andriano.

Before Dan Andriano played bass and co-sang for the Chicago pop-punk band Alkaline Trio he played in another pop-punk band by the name of Tuesday. Tuesday released its only album Freewheelin‘ on Asian Man records in 1997. But it doesn’t end there.  Before Tuesday, Dan played bass in the punk/ska band Slapstick along side Brenden Kelly of Lawrence Arms fame.
