July’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

Me Rex

The U.S. members of this team asked Team Europe to take over this month’s feature. We weren’t really listening when they explained to us why, but we vaguely remember something about a big orange Cheeto trying to take away their healthcare, forcing them to move offices into an underground bunker wallpapered with bubble wrap. We didn’t really care until we heard that we can basically do anything we want to this thing. We DO love to shove our more sophisticated European culture down everyone’s throat on every occasion we get. Since Abba and Milli Vanilli weren’t on Bandcamp, we found you five European bands that are. Check ’em all out below!

The Von Tramps Fast and Loose

The Von Tramps

While some of you jerks were out having fun at fests, I was chained to a laptop that was chained to a desk that was chained to a bunch of other chains (we really need to clean this place up) in the DyingScene basement with nothing but Bandcamp for company and a bucket of fish heads for sustenance. But despite this hardship, I have scoured the corners of Bandcamp and found six bands from all over the place (all right, maybe more than half are from the midwest, shut up, you can make these decisions when you’ve been chained up with fish heads) which were absolutely the best bands I heard while definitely not on an ether binge or in a fish head-induced fever dream! Please don’t ask how I sneaked in the ether. Uh, anyway, music below!

May’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

Bad Daddies

We’re sure everyone is still preparing for PRB or one of the many upcoming festivals, so we’re keeping it short this month. For May’s installment of Hidden Gems of Bandcamp, we’ll be focusing on bands out of the San Francisco/Bay Area. The East Bay (and the Bay in general) has been known for pumping out some of the best punk bands for decades now. 924 Gilman St. is the venue where many of these local bands such as Rancid, Operation Ivy, and Green Day have gotten their start and we’re sure many more will follow in their path. So, here’s five Bay Area bands that we think will be showing up on everyone’s radars soon! Check em’ out below.

April’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

Trivial Dispute

Springtime is here and Festival Season is in full swing! Over the next few weeks, punks of all flavors will be gathering at weekend long events across North America. Vans Warped Tour, Fest, Pouzza, PRB in multiple cities, Riot Fest, and a ton of incredible smaller local festivalss like Fuck You We Rule OK in Oklahoma and It’s Not Dead down in SoCal all kick off in the near future (or have already happened, La Escalera Fest was insane from what we heard!). One of our favorite things about the festivals is seeing some of the lesser known local bands get to play next to some of the heavyweights of our scene. We’re betting some of the acts featured in April’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp will show up on a few of the many lineups this Spring and Summer. So check out all five, fantastic selections, below! Then, if you see them at your local fest, you can tell all of your loser friends that you’ve heard ’em before!

March’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

Rats in the Wall

We’re keeping our intro short and sweet because we have got some certified rippers to introduce you to in this month’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp. Other than Festival season starting up, there’s not really much to talk about anyway (although the lineups for the club shows for this year’s PRB Vegas are looking rather nice)! Speaking of which, our selections this month may just be the best, all around lineup we’ve ever put together! So, without further delay, check out these six stunning bands, below!

February’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

With the climate of Nationalism rising across the globe these days, it’s always good to step back, take a deep breath and refocus on the big picture. Remembering that although we may live in different areas of the world and have different cultures and beliefs, there are far more things that we have in common. For us specifically, one of those many things, is music! So, it’s with this in mind, that we forge ahead into February’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp. This month, in the spirit of Globalism and celebration of the diversity of cultures, we’ve chosen to feature bands from all corners of the Planet (ed: it’s round, you moron. there are no corners), ’cause, the only border we reckanize is the tropopause! Check ’em out, below!

January’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

The first installment of Hidden Gems for 2017 is hot off the press and the Orginal Content Team has continued their annual tradition of mediocrity. In celebration of another year of employment, they again mailed it in, offering up the least amount of featured artists since last January…way to go team… Luckily, we believe in quality over quantity and all five acts on the list this month are incredible! Even better though, we’re betting they’re not on your radar yet. So, let’s get ’em on there! Check ’em all out below!

December’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

The Good Good Grief

Well, if it’s one thing we learned in 2016, it’s that we can survive a thorough beating. For putting your head down and toughing it out like good little soldiers, we’ve decided to reward you with what we think is the best list of the year! So, onwards and upwards to better days because we’re a proud, fiercely independent lot and not a bunch of whiny saps! Check out our final installment of Hidden Gems of Bandcamp for this the year of our lord 2016 below!

November’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

Rise on Everest

Thanksgiving always throws off our timing on Hidden Gems but I guess it’s better late than never, right? RIGHT!??! Look, 2016 has been rough on all of us in one aspect or another but as we near it’s end, we would like to thank you for reading and hope that our silly little article has made this tough, bitter pill of a year a little easier to swallow. October’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

Foxtrot

Oh Yea!!! It’s October!! Why all of the excitement? Well, October = Halloween and Halloween = office costume contest!! While we normally don’t get too excited about such a childish and menial event, rumor has it that Phyllis over in Accounting was so amped about the Misfits reunion a few months back that she has been working on a Glenn Danzig costume (ed: Oh god…is that what the fishnet tank top is for? Has HR been alerted?). Needless to say, there’s considerably more excitement around DyingScene HQ this year! If envisioning questionably attired, 62 year old accountants isn’t enough to get you stoked, it’s also time for this month’s installment of Hidden Gems of Bandcamp! This month, we’ve uncovered five fantastic bands that we’re betting aren’t on your radar yet. Check ’em out below!

September’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

Spruce Bringsteen

With the passing of Awesome Fest and Riot Fest comes the departure of the long, hot, busy Summer. While a great deal of the country may be looking forward to the cooler months, with leaves of every imaginable autumnal hue rustling through the frigid evening breeze, the more nihilistic, Eeyorian (ed: …what the hell man? We talked about this.) among us are less optimistic about the coming weeks. With the arrival of Fall also comes a slight nudge, as we inch ever closer to our impending doom which is a certainty come early November. While our civilization’s waning hours may be a frightening prospect for some of us, there’s no reason why we all can’t enjoy these last few weeks of life as we know it with some radical tunes! This month’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp highlights six lesser known or new punk acts from an assortment of different genres! Something for everyone, guaranteed! Check out September’s sensational selections below and try to forget about all of the pain and suffering in your not so distant future!

August’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp

American Blackout

With all of the hubbub surrounding Pokemon last month, we totally forgot to celebrate the one year anniversary of Hidden Gems of Bandcamp! August will mark the start of our sophomore year for this monthly article. My, how the time flies! After looking back at the past twelve months, we realized just how incredible our little scene is. Here’s a few mind blowing statistics from our first full year: Nearly 100 up and coming and lesser known punk acts were featured; Bands from five of the seven continents have been highlighted; Across those five continents, we’ve had acts from over twenty different countries. Now, who says our scene is dying?!?! Celebrate with us by checking out this month’s entries below!

Oh…Hello there!!! We weren’t expecting anyone this month! We figured everyone was still out, trying to trap Tamagotchis (ed: pretty sure that’s not right). Well, for those lucky few who aren’t roaming around public areas throwing balls at imaginary, yellow squirrels (sounds like our college days!) you are in for a real treat! Welcome to July’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp! Whoa now… can you believe we’re already nearing the end of June? 2016 is just about half over! They say time flies when you’re having fun, but they also say fruit flies like bananas. So to help you cope with the months rushing by, we’re bringing you some (hopefully) brand new acts for your earholes. [Ed: No, seriously. Get out.] You can find June 2016’s Hidden Gems of Bandcamp below.
