What. The. F*&k… For years I’ve been a fan of UK punk act Drones. Every single one of their releases got progressively better and I was sure that their next full-length would be one of the “breakout” punk albums of the year whenever it came. Since 2013’s “Free Marked Kid” I’ve been jonsin’ to hear new material and today I FINALLY see a press release from Lockjaw Records announcing a new single, “Parasite” in the form of a new music video.
I excitedly grabbed my earphones and stole into a conference room at work to sample the new goods. What I get is not Drones. There is a female on vocals. It’s not bad. Pretty decent actually, but in my opinion it was the the vocals of former singer Daly George that made this band stand out. This new incarnation sounds way more like a punkier Paramore than the hardcore punk act I knew and loved.
The new singer, Lois McDougall comes from a band called Fallow Fields and it looks like the band has also added guitarist Tim Kramer to their line-up.
Founding member and drummer Mitchell Thomas comments:
“We are stoked to announce the addition of Lois McDougall and Tim Kramer to the Drones family. We have been busy in the studio writing and recording and Lois and Tim have really brought a new lease of life and a new dynamic to the band. We can’t wait to get on the road and introduce the world to the latest chapter in our story!”

The song made it’s debut last November in the form of a music video.
Drones released their debut album, Mutiny, in 2011 through Lockjaw Records and is currently working on a new EP.
When the sun’s out and I’m feeling carefree I love my ska and pop-punk. When I’m feeling nostalgic and wistful I skew towards Menzingers or emo. When I’ve had three cups of coffee and need an outlet for the nebulous discontentment that silently builds behind the exterior of my stoic demeanor I turn towards hardcore-punk. That’s where I’m at this morning so when a request to check out the debut album from Californian skate-punk/hardcore act Facelift hit my inbox it was perfectly timed. This music is raw. It’s fast as hell. And it’s f’ing pissed off. Oh, and it’s riddled with metallic riff breakdowns which absolutely clinched it for me (give it 2:20 into the album opener to see what I mean). Turn up the volume and let off some steam with me by streaming “Sinceforevertilwhenever” here.
