New Song: For Today – “Fight the Silence”

For Today has released a new song titled “Fight the Silence”. The track is said to appear on the band’s upcoming (and as-of-now, untitled) studio album in early 2014. For Today front-man Mattie Montgomery wrote about the song’s message:

“One of the most devastating issues facing our modern global culture is the issue of human trafficking. No person, of any race, religion, nationality, or economic standing should ever have to live in forced subjection to another. There are over 27 MILLION people in slavery worldwide today (this is more than at any other time in human history), and yet, in the grand scheme of things, there is very little being done politically to bring this tragedy to an end.  So, in light of this heinous injustice, For Today has teamed up with the A21 Campaign to help shine a light on the issue, and raise funds to continue the global effort to rescue and rehabilitate those who have been victimized, as well as to oppose and prosecute those who are responsible for the buying and selling of other human beings. […] There is a global network of sick, selfish people preying on the desperation of the broken and impoverished.  Let’s stand up and let our voices be heard for the sake of these voiceless captives.  It’s time we stand up, speak out, and Fight the Silence.”

You can listen to “Fight the Silence” below.

For Today released their fourth studio album, Immortal, in May 2012 through Razor & Tie Records.

For Today guitarist leaves band after anti-gay twitter rant, band posts apology statement

After a series of seriously anti-gay tweets and the subsequent backlash from a large part of the music/internet community For Today guitarist Mike Reynolds has apparently decided he’s better suited for bible college and a mission in the Middle East (I don’t think that means he’ll be flying drones).

The band posted this message regarding Reynolds’ departure and his new replacement:

“Mike Reynolds is no longer a part of For Today. He has decided that now is the time for he and his wife to put their plans in motion to enroll in bible college, and to begin working toward full-time missions work in the Middle East. Mike will be replaced by long-timefriend of the band, and former In The Midst of Lions guitar player, Sam Penner, who will be appearing with the band as they headline their upcoming FIght The Silence tour.”

Frontman Mattie Montgomery has also released a public statement to anyone affected by Mike’s recent comments regarding homosexuality. The video can be viewed here.

For Today guitarist makes anti-gay posts, band releases statement

For Today  guitarist Mike Reynolds, got himself into some hot water over some anti-gay tweets that he posted in response yo a Dallas Voice article about the removal of “Anti-gay pastor Louie Giglio” from his responsibility as “benediction speaker” at the upcoming presidential inauguration.

Reynolds had this to say.

There IS a state church being formed, there is going to ba an exclusive acceptance of preachers who advocate the LGBT [LINK]. Don’t be deceived, homosexuality is a sin. This sin with all other sins is what Jesus died for. He conquered so that we would be free. No such thing as a gay Christian, the same as there is no such thing as a Christian who loves his sin. Don’t be fooled by the formation of a state church as though the government is being converted, they only use the name of Jesus for their Progressive liberal agenda. If you are a Christian then separate yourself from this civil religion that advocates sin. Be true to God.”

Following the tweets the band released this statement:

For today has always and will always be a band that is about loving people, we have no hatred towards any people regardless of what they believe or how they live. We may not agree on everything but Jesus loves you and died for you. And so would we.

Blessings, For Today
