S.O.D. announce 30th anniversary reissue of “Speak English or Die”

Although it was recently announced that there were no plans for a reunion, crossover legends S.O.D. ― the crossover supergroup featuring Billy Milano (M.O.D.), Nuclear Assault bassist Danny Lilker and his former bandmates in Anthrax Scott Ian and Charlie Benante ― will release a 30th anniversary edition of their iconic debut album Speak English or Die on November 27th through Megaforce Records. The reissue will include the original album and the demo recordings from the pre-S.O.D. project Crab Society North.

Released in 1985, both Speak English or Die and the S.O.D. project were conceived after Scott Ian and Charlie Benante’s main band Anthrax finished recording their second album Spreading the Disease, which was released that same year. It was Ian who drew the face of the band’s iconic character Sargent D.

Dan Lilker and Billy Milano comment on S.O.D. reunion rumors

Despite rumors from last July, Nuclear Assault bassist Dan Lilker revealed to Horns Up that there are no plans to reunite S.O.D. ― the crossover supergroup featuring himself, Billy Milano (M.O.D.) and his former bandmates in Anthrax Scott Ian and Charlie Benante ― for a 30th anniversary celebration of their iconic debut album Speak English or Die. He explains:

“I know there’s gonna be a reissue, but him talking about a live show is all a little premature, let’s say. It’s gonna be the 30th anniversary of ‘Speak English or Die’, so there’s gonna be yet another reissue. I say it with a slight air of cynicism. And, yeah, it’ll be cool. Billy might have made it seem like, but he didn’t consult anybody else that played in S.O.D. He just kind of announced something, and we went, ‘Huh?’ That’s what happened.”

Asked if he would do the S.O.D. reunion show if everyone else agreed to it, Lilker replied: “Yeah. I don’t have any differences with anybody. It was never me. I would do it as long as I didn’t have any other previous plans on that day. If anything else I have already confirmed is confirmed, I wouldn’t do it, but if they say, ‘Hey, what are you doing July blah blah blah this year,’ I’d go, ‘Okay. Fine.'”

Billy Milano also commented on the reunion situation, telling Blabbermouth.net“all the members of SOD were contacted via email to contribute to a 30 year anniversary edition package by Missi from MEGAFORCE who is one of the honest people still in this dying industry. She also mentioned in her e-mail that it would be fun to have a show to celebrate it. To my surprise everyone including myself replied that fun sounds like fun. I went to NYC to visit family and friends and was asked to be interviewd on Jimmy Gestapos Radio show. His buddy Mike is the co host of the show and owns the NYHC black and Blue festival. They asked if I woulkd be interested in playing with SOD. It was the same day I met with Missi from megaforce. I said yes. We announced it giving plenty of time for Charlie and Scott to make it happen. I also went to NY to collect the money Scott and Charlie owe me for covering songs I own publishing on. (HEY JOHN BUSH I HEARD THEY DIDNT PAY YOU EITHER! I TRIED TO WARN YOU BUT HEY I’M THE BAD GUY) IT didnt happen so in my mind I called the shows off 3 days later. I also had the shows based as a benefit, I wanted to help a couple of Dog rescue groups I follow on facebook. Second chance rescue in ny and a Tonkers rescue group. This way the band didnt have a reunion for money and it actually helps someone and adds to the good karma of the music scene. Charlie Benante said why does it have to be a benefit we can make a lot of money. Ok, so at this point SOD is done, they are trying to talk to me via friends and booking agents and the answer is NO!!!! MOD is finishing a record. I have a new group Billy Be Dammed and I love my life in Austin Texas. and as far as me being right wing, no shit! The days and INSANITY of political correctness is coming to a head… Enjoy the Chaos and Get a gun, Go Mueria! VOTE TRUMP!”

S.O.D. reunion in the works?

Horns Up Rocks is reporting that crossover thrash icons S.O.D. ― the supergroup featuring Billy Milano (M.O.D.) and three current/former Anthrax members Scott Ian, Charlie Benante and Danny Lilker (also a member of Nuclear Assault) ― will reunite for a 30th anniversary celebration at next year’s Black N Blue Bowl in New York City.

There doesn’t seem to be much more information regarding the reunion, but Horns Up Rock revealed that BNB Takeover radio show on East Village Radio played a new S.O.D. song, implying that new material is in the works.

M.O.D. writing new album

Crossover legends M.O.D. (fronted by Billy Milano of S.O.D. and United Forces) recently posted an update on their Facebook page, stating they have written seven new songs for their new album, which will serve as a follow-up to 2007’s Red, White & Screwed:

“New MOD music writing in progress. Got 7 new songs and they are gonna be something to sing about’!!!”

We’ll be sure to keep you posted as more details on the album come to light. Last June, M.O.D. posted a free download of their first song in seven years titled “Hermano.”

M.O.D. offer free download of new song “Hermano”

Crossover legends M.O.D. (fronted by S.O.D. and United Forces singer Billy Milano) are offering a free download of a new song entitled “Hermano” and you can snatch it up by clicking here.

Here’s what Billy Milano had to say about the band’s as-yet-untitled upcoming album, which will be their first since 2007’s Red, White & Screwed:

“Greeting M.O.D./S.O.D. fans. Billy Milano here. M.O.D. is in the final stages of writing a brand new ripping record. I had a few offers from some labels. But in the end, the offers were nothing more than worthless bullshit.

I have done M.O.D. for 26 years. And I have always made a record that I was proud of. Now I want to make this record that I have been working very hard on for the last 6 months. That is where you fans come in. I have always helped out many bands and musicians. And now I am asking my fans, OUR FANS, for donations to help make this record a reality. M.O.D. is currently getting ready to leave for our European tour as I type this.

In return, I am offering you a very real NYHC Punk record that will be the best M.O.D. record I have ever done. And believe me, it is!!! The record will be available as a FREE download to all the M.O.D. fans in the world. Or would you just rather have another Justin Bieber record?

Peace and respect as always.
March on!
Milano”

We’ll keep you posted as more details on the new M.O.D. record come to light. The band will be touring Europe from mid to late June. Details on when and where they’ll be stopping can be found below.

Two former members of S.O.D. form United Forces

Two of the four members of the legendary thrash/hardcore punk band S.O.D. — vocalist Billy Milano and bassist Danny Likler — have started a new band called United Forces, apparently named after a song from the aforementioned band’s iconic 1985 album Speak English or Die. The project also features Nick Barker (formerly of Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth) on drums and Anton Reisenegger (Criminal, Lock Up) on guitar.

Milano on the project, “I’m not out to reinvent myself at my age. I just want to have a lot of fun with this. We called it United Forces because we’re located all over the place, in different countries, but this is something we’re going to come together for.” Lilker adds, “It’s gonna be really fun to get together with some good friends — who are also great musicians — and play some earsplitting, hardcore-tinged thrash metal! And obviously, we know how to do just that.”

Not much information has been given about United Forces, but their future plans are said to be revealed in a few weeks.
