BL’AST! guitarist talks about new material and possible reissue of “Take the Manic Ride”

BL’AST! guitarist Mike Neider was recently interviewed by New Noise magazine, where he talked about the band’s long-awaited new album, which he states is “getting brutal”, and their involvement with Rise Records, whose founder Craig Ericson is a fan of the band. He states:

“Craig attended Bl’ast! parties before we even had a release out. He’s always been a Bl’ast! fan and wanted to release some stuff with us. Rise Records will have three releases out with Bl’ast! by the end of 2016!”

Neider also talked about a possible reissue of their last album to date, 1989’s Take the Manic Ride, which, unlike BL’AST!’s first two records, has not received a reissue treatment. He states, “We wanted to release that more than anything else and improve on the quality of the mix. We cannot find the original tapes for a remix, and remastering it wouldn’t be satisfying enough. We considered a re-recording of it, but I didn’t want to offend the sign of the times. I’m still pondering on what to do with that record.”

Last month, BL’AST! released a 7″ split with Eyehategod on Rise Records. They also released a two-song EP For Those Who’ve Graced the Fire! last October, which was the first new material of any kind the band had released in over 25 years. Their 2013 release Blood! was a previously-unreleased album recorded in the 1980’s and remixed by Dave Grohl.

Random Cover Song: BL’AST! – “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue” (The Ramones)

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs. Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs. Good or bad. Intriguing or mundane.  We’ll let you be the judge.

Tonight’s cover comes from BL’AST! and their cover of the Ramones classic “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue”. The original version of the song first appeared on the Ramones’ 1976 iconic debut album, and BL’AST! recorded their version for the 1991 tribute album Gabba Gabba Hey – A Tribute to the Ramones.

You can listen to both versions of the song below.

Nick and Joey’s contribution to the band has brought it to a level of tightness and intensity that is totally insane!”

Castillo also commented on the tour and reuniting with Oliveri, who he last performed with in Queens of the Stone Age over ten years ago, “Very Stoked to be playing with BL’AST! for a couple reasons: I go way back with the guys, be it when I was a kid playing in Wasted Youth, we did shows together, and I was always a fan. And obviously playing again with Nick Oliveri, my other old friend from our days in QOTSA together, makes it even that much greater and fun! Can’t wait to get overseas to show what BL’AST! is all about, see ya soon!” Oliveri adds, “BL’AST! is like getting your ass kicked and liking it. I saw them play when I was younger with Exploited. Bands like these change lives. It is an honor to play with Mike, Clifford, and I’m really stoked to be playing with Joey C again. We are gonna kill it.”
