World Scariest Police Chases stream ‘Adolf Hipster’ 7-inch

Pittsburgh’s Worlds Scariest Police Chases have released a brand new, three song 7-inch titled Adolf Hipster. WSPC’s Dirty Rock had this to say about the band’s new material:

“It’s not often that your childhood dreams become a reality, which is a good thing because if they did we’d all be firemen, astronauts, and cowboys. For Worlds Scariest Police Chases though, those dreams did come true. They got to release their newest 7″ on their all time favorite label, PHAT Wreck Chords. They can still remember running to the record store with their saved up lunch money to pick up the latest PHAT comp, Phat Music for Phat People, Survival of the Phattest, or Life In The Phat Lane. So when they were approached by Phat Mike to release the newest record they were stoked! This 7″ is the product of 7 or 8 kids that grew up on Phat music then started abusing drugs, got fat, became cops, and started a punk band. We know you are going to love it, because we love it, and we are mother fucking taste makers god damn it. Now listen to the damn thing!”

You can stream the whole 7-inch here, and order it from A-F Records here.

World Scariest Police Chases will officially release Adolf Hipster on November 11, 2015. It is the follow up to the band’s sophomore (and dare I say, breakthrough) album, NOFX And Out Comes The Wolves Dookie, which was released on November 12, 2013 through  A-F Records.

You can view it below.

The following is the group’s Twitter statement from October 17th:

What is left to do after all your goals have been achieved? Punk Rock has been saved, lives have been ruined, and the greatest record of our generation, NOFX And Out Come The Wolves Dookie, has been made. DS Staff Picks: Top 10 Albums Of 2013- David (Ramones999138)

Hey, what’s up? My name’s David and I help contribute news articles for the Dying Scene. I was originally not going to make a top ten list because I had a hard time deciding what to leave on and keep off of the list due to all of the great releases that came out this year. After changing my picks about a dozen times I think I finally came up with a halfway decent list, or maybe or not. You can check out my top ten list below. By the way, I borrowed this picture from a YouTube video I found online, I hope the creator of the video doesn’t mind.

Hi, I’m Dustin, your regular Thursday afternoon editor. Sometimes I’ll respond to your comments on Facebook and I’ll either be incredibly polite or incredibly snarky. I also do album reviews.

Here are my favorite albums of 2013. I broke the rules and went to 11. Let’s go!

Album Review: Worlds Scariest Police Chases – “NOFX and out come the wolves dookie”

Worlds Scariest Police Chases is exactly the type is band that I wanted to be in when I was fifteen. They’re loud, they’re crass, they’re signed to A-F Records, and they’re bold (dumb?) enough to title their sophomore album NOFX and out come the wolves dookie and then give it matching artwork. The album’s title and cover art really say it all: Worlds Scariest Police Chases don’t care about anything but having a good time. You can love them for it, or you can hate them for it, but either way they probably don’t give a fuck.

The nods to NOFX, Rancid, and Green Day in the album’s equally clever and stupid title and artwork are obvious enough, but as far as the music goes the band owes more to the posi-core / youth crew scene of the 1990’s. The album is full of a bunch of gang vocals shouting choruses, lots of distorted guitars, chunky bass, a couple of breakdowns, and lyrics that are both self-referential and ironic… if Good Clean Fun ever broke edge, Worlds Scariest Police Chases would be the result (the lyrics to “You’re Only Punk Once” support this theory).

Lyrically, NOFX and out come the wolves dookie is unapologetic. The songs range from being politically incorrect (“Americunt”, “Gay Jesus for President”), sarcastic (“Punk Rock Ruined My Life”, “You’re Only Punk Once”) and sometimes just outright silly (“Start (Fucking Yourself) Today” [Editor: Take that, Gorilla Biscuits!], or all of those and more at once. There’s lots of songs about cops (“Robocop”, “Citizen’s Arrest”) and even a direct reference to SNL’s “Magical Mysteries” sketch in “Cops N’ Fathers”. If any of it were sincere, it might be offensive, but it’s all so stupidly over-the-top that it’s hard to take seriously.

It is said that there’s a fine line between stupid and, uh… clever. Worlds Scariest Police Chases see that line and scribble all over it with the very same markers that they probably confiscated from a bunch of kids with x’s on their hands. These guys are either some of the most brilliant satirists in punk rock, or some of the biggest idiots in punk rock.

I can’t seem to tell which one they are.

4.5 / 5
