Green Day to be inducted to Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame by Fall Out Boy

We’ve known since December that 1990s pop-punk stalwarts Green Day are headed to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, and now we know who will be inducting said Bay Area three-piece into said Hall of Fame. That honor(?) has been bestowed upon…Fall Out Boy. Sounds about right, I guess…

Today also brought with it the announcement that Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Patti Smith, Peter Wolf, John Mayer and Steve Cropper will be joining Pete Wentz & Company as the other inductors, and they’ll be inducting Ringo Starr, Bill Withers, Lou Reed, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Stevie Ray Vaughan and The “5” Royales, in that order. For whatever reason, event organizers didn’t announce who’d be inducting Joan Jett and The Blackhearts into the Hall. Weird.

The 2015 Hall Of Fame induction ceremony takes place April 18th at Cleveland’s Public Hall, and it’ll air on HBO on May 30th.

Screen Daily is reporting that Fall Out Boy have a new original song that will appear in the upcoming soundtrack for Disney’s Big Hero 6. A portion of the report reads as follows:

“Suffice to say, the graphics and lighting of the film were brilliant. The production traveled to universities across the world, including Carnegie Melon, MIT and Tokyo, to research robotic advancements – including soft robotics – in order to accurately portray Baymax while the film’s score includes original music from Fall Out Boy.”

Fall Out Boy, who streamed a new song last week, recently announced that they will be releasing a new album in early 2015, which will be the follow-up to last year’s Save Rock & Roll.

Fall Out Boy to release new album early next year

In a recent interview, Fall Out Boy bassist Patrick Stump confirmed that the band’s next album will be released around early 2015. He explains:

“We don’t have an exact timetable yet. I mean, I have a two-week old son and Patrick has a baby on the way in October, so there’s a lot going on. The thing that we’ve done is…we’re basically like Tuscan Raiders, Sand People from Star Wars. We’re very mobile, our families are very mobile, and our kids can go on tour with us every summer. I don’t think that’s necessarily an issue. The other thing is that we still care about albums. I don’t think that pop culture is at a place where as a whole, it cares about new contemporary albums, but our fanbase definitely does. They really care about bodies of work, and that’s something we still aspire to. My guess is 2015 – very early 2015 – for an album. And that’s absolutely the goal; we won’t just be putting out songs, there will be an album.”

Fall Out Boy streamed a new song yesterday called “Centuries”.

So we’re writing, finishing out the album cycle in South Africa in September and then I feel like the great thing about what internet culture has morphed into, we were goofing around with this weird French producer the other day just for the heck of it. And I feel like you can just put out whatever and as long as it’s authentic to who you are. It can be singles or an EP, it’s just whatever you want.”
