DS Staff Picks: Mike Scott’s Top 10 Albums of 2016

2016 was a really solid year for albums for me. In the past, I’ve shied away from end of year lists sometimes, just because I didn’t always think I’d find 10 albums I really loved to write about. But no such problems for this past year. (And that’s without Slayer or Maiden releasing anything.)

The top couple of albums in my list truly have hit me hard. On repeat in my car, on my phone and with me on a lot of my early morning commutes out in the South London cold, I can definitely see a lot of these records staying with me for a long time. So, I’m going to not mention 2016’s questionable votes, referendums and the deaths, but just say my lovely daughter was born this year and I’ll remember it as a great music year…

You can read the full list below.

Hatebreed bassist Chris Beattie injured in accident, forced to sit out band’s North American tour

Hatebreed has announced that bassist Chris Beattie is being forced to sit out the band’s North American tour, which kicks off tonight in Poughkeepsie, New York, due to injuries he recently sustained in a tree-cutting accident. Here’s what Beattie had to say:

On Monday a large branch fell off a tree I was cutting and knocked the ladder I was on out from under me. I fell 8 feet off the ladder onto the sidewalk and luckily was able to throw the chainsaw away from me on the way down. I broke my left wrist and right elbow. I will be going “under the knife” this Friday to correct the breaks and start the healing process. Jamey, Wayne, Matt, Frank and our manager Steve have all been very supportive and I look forward to getting back out on the stage as soon as I can. Please go out and support Hatebreed as they leave for a short US tour today. Thanks to Matt from Shadows Fall for filling in for me. See you soon.

We wish Chris the best of luck and hope he gets better soon!

If you wanna catch Hatebreed on this tour, check out the details on when and where they’re playing below. The band’s latest album “The Divinity of Purpose” was released on January 29th via Nuclear Blast.

Hevy Fest cancelled

UK’s Hevy Fest has unfortunately been cancelled this year. Here’s what the festival’s organizers had to say:

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of this year’s festival. Despite our best efforts to continue without the camping set-up, the change of venue has been more problematic than anticipated. It is time to draw a line under 2013, and look to the future to make sure next year’s festival is everything Hevy should be. This has been a turbulent year for us, and we are very sorry to have let our audience down. Ticket holders will receive an automatic refund from their ticket agents. The HORSE the band show will still take place as planned.
