Catch 22 last released Permanent Revolution way back in 2006. Their timeless classic Keasbey Nights is a staple in any ska lovers collection. I was lucky to have the pleasure of seeing Catch 22 on their short run of shows back in 2016, as well as Bid D and the Kids Table a few times, don’t sleep on this show, Big D and Catch 22 will bring the house down.

Askultura (Miami rumba ska punk) launch Kickstarter to fund new album, remaster 2014’s “I.N.F.E.R.N.O.”

My very favorite Miami rumba-ska-world-punks, Askultura, have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their new album (not yet named) for estimated release later this year! They would also be using money raised to press their first vinyl, fix up the “Cool Bus,” and to remaster and re-distribute their 2014 album “I.N.F.E.R.N.O.”

Askultura has a slew of interesting rewards available such as “PIMPHAND” – for $20 they will make you their #WCW or #MCM on Facebook and Instagram or “The Ryan Eldred Special” for $50 you can chat on the phone with Ryan Eldred of Catch 22 for an hour. Pick your poison and donate funds right here!

Random Cover Song: Catch-22 – “American Pie” (Don Mclean)

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs. Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs. Good or bad. Intriguing or mundane. We’ll let you be the judge.

Today’s cover comes from New Jersey ska punks Catch-22 and their cover of Don Mclean’s “American Pie”… or more accurately, their cover of the chorus of “American Pie”. The original version appeared on Mclean’s 1971 album American Pie and is 8 and a half minutes long, while the Catch-22 version appears on their 1999 EP Washed Up!  (and again on its expanded 2001 release as Washed Up and Through the Ringer, and is just the song’s chorus several times over for 2 minutes.

You can listen to both versions of “American Pie” below.
