Wow!  Those of you who grew up listening to punk in the 90’s will surely remember Wizo and if you’ve ever wondered if they were still around, the answer is a resounding “Hell yeah, they are!”.  The band just released a brand new album titled “Punk gibt’s nicht umsonst! Mexican punk band does surprisingly good Spanish, acoustic version of Wizo’s “Quadrat Im Kreis”

I almost dismissed this offhand when it was brought to my attention but my curiosity got the better of me and I’m glad it did.  Mexican punk outfit Dickens did a Spanish, acoustic version of Wizo‘s song “Quadrat Im Kreis” from their 1998 Fat Wreck release “Kraut & Rüben” and it actually came out really cool.  You can give it a listen and compare it to the original below.

Wizo is one of the few bands (maybe the only band) who don’t sing in English that I can still fully get into.

Wizo recording new album

wizoRemember Wizo?  For those of you who might not, they are a punk band from Germany that put out a few albums on Fat Wreck Chords in the 90’s.  Most of their songs are in German but they’re so good you honestly don’t care that you can’t understand them (asssuming you don’t speak German).  Anyway, after a long hiatus they are apparently back in action and in the studio polishing up 20 new songs for a new album, which they plan on releasing next summer.

Their last album, Anderster, was released in 2004.
