The Gaslight Anthem plan late summer release for new album

According to a recent interview-ish article published by Rolling Stone, the guys in The Gaslight Anthem are planning on having their new album out near the end of summer 2014. Here’s an excerpt from the article in question:

The band spent six and a half weeks recording their fifth studio album (due in the late summer) at Blackbird Studio in a string of the sessions frontman Brian Fallon describes as “completely different than anything we had ever done before.”

“Instead of going that extra step of just adding some organ or some background vocals, this time we actually really changed up a lot of the sounds,” he explains (the band gave RS an exclusive look behind the recording process). “There are certain new songs where you might say, ‘Oh, that could have been on Handwritten,’ or ‘That could have been on 59 Sound,’ but there are some songs where you’re going to be like, ‘This has never been touched by this band before.’”

We’ll be sure to keep all you antsy Gaslight Anthem fans posted as more details on the band’s new album come to light. They last released a compilation album entitled The B-Sides on January 28th through SideOneDummy.

Random Cover Songs: The Gaslight Anthem – “Anywhere I Lay My Head” (Tom Waits)

Cover songs are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get. We here at Dying Scene love hearing punk bands do their own take on other band’s songs. Sometimes they pull off amazing interpretations of old classics, sometimes they’re not much more than humble tributes to a fellow artist, and other times they’re just downright laughable renditions of otherwise great songs. Good or bad. Intriguing or mundane. We’ll let you be the judge.

Today’s cover comes from The Gaslight Anthem and they’re rendition of “Anywhere I Lay My Head by Americana folk/blues/everything icon Tom Waits. The original appeared on Tom Waits’ 1985 album Rain Dogs, while the Gaslight Anthem recently released this cover as as a single for part of their “45 RPM Club”.

Listen to the cover and compare it to the original below.
