Guttermouth guitarist talks about new EP “Got It Made”, explains why they haven’t released an album in 10 years

In a recent interviewGuttermouth guitarist Geoff Armstrong talked about the band’s upcoming EP Got It Made, and explained why they haven’t released an album in more than a decade. Here’s what he had to say:

“We kind of wanted to use the EP as a test a little bit. There’s lots of other ideas that we had on the table for songs that we kind of worked with and we had a few more lyrics and just weren’t feeling them so we felt that these were six songs that we wanted to put out. Yeah, we could have thrown another five in for filler and come out with a full length, but we didn’t feel that that was really the thing to do, like, if we weren’t completely satisfied with the songs, we were over it. That being said, there’s definitely some other ideas being thrown around. I don’t want to jump the gun, but I think you can definitely see some more in the future maybe another EP and then something else down the road. You never know, especially with this band, because there’s nothing ever set in stone and we’re not contracted with a record label as far as, ‘Hey you have to put out this and that.’

I think that’s why the gap was so long with putting out records and I think more Mark than anybody else was over the writing process and over being under a contract because some of the old records did some really big numbers and then you put out something afterwards and it does half that or whatever the case may be and the fans don’t like it and everyone is like, ‘They’re starting to get old and their songs suck,’ so I think Mark was feeling some stress and pressure with the writing process or just kind of burned out maybe he didn’t even have anything to say in music for awhile. Then in Australia, he just started coming up with ideas. So who knows with this band? You never know what you’ll see. I could tell you right now, ‘Yeah, we have a full length planned,’ and then it would never come out. It changes by the month depending on what’s going on, but I think everybody is in a good mindset to do more songs for sure.”

Got it Made will be released on July 15th through Bird Attack and Rude Records. Guttermouth have not released a full-length studio album since Shave the Planet, which came out in 2006 via Volcom Entertainment.

WROS Fest in Brazil was originally supposed to take place in October with a lineup featuring Less Than Jake, Pulley, Goldfinger, Strung Out, and many others. The festival then got rescheduled for the end of this month with a completely different lineup with acts that included Guttermouth, The Casualties, Mustard Plug, Zebrahead, and more.

Now the festival is being canceled, not rescheduled. The following message is a Google translated version of what the festival organizers had to say regarding WROS Fest’s cancellation:

“WROS Fest 2013 canceled!

Please be advised that WROS Fest 2013 scheduled to take place on 21 and 22 December in São Paulo, is definitely canceled . Recent events surrounding the festival and legal and bureaucratic constraints, preclude the company Web Rockers , director and producer of WROS Fest, to follow up on final preparations for the effective realization of the festival this year.

Tickets purchased will be fully reimbursed . The refund request must be made here.

On 21 and 22 December production of WROS Fest Ticket along with Brazil , will be attending the customers that perhaps attend the Area of the Americas, to answer questions about refunds .

Guttermouth singer brawls with woman mid show, crowd retaliates

According to recent reports, a fight between a female audience member and singer Mark Adkins broke out at Guttermouth‘s show in Ft. Collins, Colorado last night… Here’s an excerpt of an email Jaded Punk received from someone named Jesse, whose friends were in attendance:

So, Guttermouth played Hodi’s Half Note in Fort Collins, CO (home of the Blasting Room, most of ALL/Descendents, Drag the River, etc) last night, rather they tried to play, their set lasted about 30 seconds. I didn’t attend because well, Guttermouth sucks, but I’ve been reading the Facebook threads from friends who still live in Fort Collins all today about what happened:

Apparently guy from Guttermouth was completely shitfaced drunk and starts off his set by insulting the crowd and then decks some girl in the pit (editor’s note: that’s not what happens in the video), she fights back, security jumps in and separates them, Guttermouth guy falls into pit where the crowd beats the crap out of him. Everything ends with security breaking it up, shutting down the show and telling everyone “police are on the way”.

There are also some videos of all of this going down floating around the web… Below is the best quality one I could find, in which the woman appears (to me) to jump on stage and throw the first punch at Mark.

We’ll keep you posted as more details surrounding this whole debacle come to light. Guttermouth’s latest album “Shave the Planet” came out in 2006 on Volcom Entertainment. They have since released a split 7-inch with The New Threat, which is free to download here.
