New Music: Big D + The Kids Table/Doped-Up Dollies release split flexi single

A couple of first-rate Boston bands covered a couple of legendary Boston bands for a new split, and we couldn’t really be more stoked.

Big D and The Kids Table and the Doped Up Dollies teamed up for the split, which features the former covering the mighty Sam Black Church’s “Infernal Machine” and the latter covering the inimitable Morphine’s “Early To Bed.” It’s available in digital download and limited-edition flexi-disk through Paper + Plastick‘s Rare Breed Records imprint. Rare Breed releases free summer sampler (Slackers, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, etc.)

Rare Breed, Paper + Plastick and friends have announced the release of their free summer sampler, creatively titled “The 2016 Summer Sampler”. The release features 21 track from bands like Less Than JakeBig D and The Kid’s Table, The Slackers and Reel Big Fish.

The Slackers stream new self-titled album

Following the little sample last week, NYC Ska legends The Slackers have just released a full stream of their new, self-titled album, which was released via Rare Breed Recording Company.

It consists of 15 tracks that simultaneously mix Ska with a dirty urban feel, and infuse it with a crazy carnival feel. Check it out below.



The Pomps announce new EP, stream new song, and announce tour dates

Boston’s ska-revivalist group The Pomps, (featuring members of Have Nots, Void Union, and more) have announced that they will be releasing a new EP, titled Indie Rock is Dying, via Rare Breed Recording company in early 2016.

To give you a taste of what to expect, the band is streaming a new song off the EP called “All My Guns.”  You can check that out along with the bands upcoming tour dates below.

The Pomps last released Pomps Save the Queen in 2013.



Chris DeMakes (Less Than Jake) covers Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home”

Less Than Jake frontman Chris DeMakes recently covered Motley Crue and Iron Maiden for a 7″ flexi disc released through his bandmate Vinnie Fiorello’s Rare Breed Recording Company.

DeMakes’ cover of Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” can be heard below, and the 7″ can be pre-ordered here.



Stream debut single from Anthony Raneri’s (Bayside) new ska/reggae band The Young Ones

Well, this is something I didn’t expect to be covering today! Bayside frontman Anthony Raneri is now the singer of a ska/reggae band called The Young Ones, and their debut single – a cover of Cliff Richard and The Shadows’ “The Young Ones” – can be heard below.

The track is available as part of a subscription-based 7″ series being released by Vinnie Fiorello of Less Than Jake and Obi Fernandez of Westbound Train‘s recently-launched Rare Breed Recording Company. Head over here to subscribe.



Introducing new Ska and Reggae label Rare Breed Recording Company

Less Than Jake‘s Vinnie Fiorello has started yet another record label, this time with Westbound Train‘s Obi Fernandez.  The new label is called Rare Breed Recording Company and will be solely focused on releasing music from Ska, Reggae, and Soul acts.

The first product the label will be releasing is a flexi disk subscription in which you will receive a new flexi every other month, totaling six releases over the year.  You can see more information about that here.  Also, you can check out a teaser video for the new label below.
