Frank Turner and Xtra Mile Announce Opening Slot Competition for Lost Evenings – Boston

Well this is a pretty cool opportunity if you’re in the Boston area (because we don’t have enough cool things going on here)!

As you probably know by now, the great Frank Turner will be holding the third installment of his Lost Evenings shows in Boston, Massachusetts, in a couple months. The four-night run of sold-out shows at House Of Blues features a different theme each night. The final night, May 19th, has been dubbed the Xtra Mile Night, and finds Turner teaming up with his long-running UK-based label hosting a handful of Xtra Mile Recordings vets like Against Me!, Skinny Lister and Trapper Schoep as openers. They’ve also announced a contest that will allow a kick-ass opening band a chance to kick the festivities off. Think you’ve got what it takes? Head here to find out how you and your band can enter!

Turner recently wrapped recording sessions for his eight studio album, which will serve as follow-up to last year’s Be More Kind.

Grab a beer and a mic and get practicing! The Flatliners have announced a karaoke competition!

I spent the last 6 years living in Asia. I love the continent and i’m sure it won’t be long before I find myself back there. However, the one thing I do not miss is their passion for karaoke! So I’m glad I am not the one who has to sit through hours of punk fans belting out their best efforts for this one! Although i’m sure it would certainly be better than suffering through endless Asian love songs.

Anyway, The Flatliners have announced a karaoke competition; calling on fans to upload videos of themselves covering their song “Indoors” onto youtube. Winners will receive 2 show passes and a prize pack. There will be 3 winners which will be announced on September 8th. You can find more information on the band’s facebook page.

So get a few drinks in you (I find this usually helps with karaoke) and give it your best shot! You can download the instrumental version of the song here.

Win a free Motosierra 7-inch and more!

South American speed rockers Motosierra have returned from hiatus to release a highly limited 7-inch through Spaghetty Town Records. Delivering two explosive tracks (“Buzo Nuevo/”La Marcos”) of blistering speed, frantic riffing and shrieking lyrics that clock under 5:00, the release is compact enough for you to capture and absorb the primal energy and raw ferocity Motosierra has carved out in their genre since the dawn of the new millennium.

The A – side “Buzo Nuevo” consists of a balls out metal/punk groove and rhythm with the B – side “La Marcos” elicits the context of traditional punk rock with three chords and lyrics of self awareness and empowerment being spewed forth from Spanish dialect.

Flying under the radar with three full lengths, a hand full of split LPs, singles and high octane cross continental tours across South America and Europe, this news blast is likely your introduction to the group but if your playlist has Zeke, Valient Thorr and Motörhead on a consistent rotation, these dudes are going to get your attention.

Enter the contest below to win a free copy of the 7-inch along with some stickers, patches and other goodies!

Contest: Sweet Baby “It’s A Girl” LP reissue, new Sweet Baby 7-inch & more

Formed in Berkeley, California in 1986, Sweet Baby (and their contemporaries Operation Ivy, Crimpshrine, the Mr. T Experience, etc) played a seminal role in the earliest days of the Gilman Street punk scene. Many credit Sweet Baby with inventing an entirely new genre of music – one which melds the harmonic pop sensibilities of the Beatles and the Everly Brothers with the frenetic four-on-the-floor song structures of the Ramones and the Buzzcocks. It’s a genre that came to be called “pop punk,” and it’s a genre that Sweet Baby defined and perfected years before anyone else.

Out of print on vinyl for over twenty years, Sweet Baby’s “It’s A Girl” LP has attained a cult-like following and has influenced virtually every pop-leaning punk band of the last two decades. Eccentric Pop Records is beyond stoked to (finally!) offer this limited edition reissue pressing – featuring completely remastered audio and pressed on pink vinyl, this album has never looked or sounded better, and is being offered with a brand new Sweet Baby 7” featuring 2 previously unreleased studio tracks and 2 live songs from 1986!

To celebrate, and to help spread the word, Dying Scene and Eccentric Pop are offering one hell of great giveaway contest! One lucky winner will receive:
– Sweet Baby “It’s a Girl!” Reissue LP on pink vinyl (limited to 500 copies)
– Sweet Baby bonus 7” (housed in a hand-screened sleeve and numbered out of 250 copies)
– Test pressings of both the LP and 7”
– Sweet Baby “1989 Tour” T Shirt
– Additional records from the Eccentric Pop Records back catalog

That’s one hell of a prize pack! To enter just fill out the form below!
