It looks like a bunch of AFI fans got punk’d (so to speak) this morning. Earlier today, AP.net reported that the band had split up based off a thread on fan site The Despair Faction (which has since been deleted). Well, AFI News HQ got in touch with the band’s management and confirmed that it was a hoax, and that Davey Havok’s verified account on the site was apparently hacked.
The original post that sparked this read:
“This is the end. Sorry, but AFI is done.
After more than 15 years of being together, we as a band have decided to disband A.F.I.
Me and Jade will still continue the Blaqk Audio project but there will be no more A.F.I albums or shows. We have matured and have other things in life that we would like to attend to. Please forgive us for the random statement but it was something we were thinking of for a while.
We will post a more detailed statement soon, keep your eyes peeled!”
The statement from the band’s management said “That’s not dave. The band haven’t broken up. Someone is just screwing around.” Alt Press confirmed that that statement was true. Adam Carson has also confirmed on Twitter that the rumor was false and pointed out that they would have released a better statement.
So rest easy, AFI fans. The guys are still together.
