Greg Graffin announces new book “Population Wars” and accompanying limited edition 7-inch

Bad Religion’s Greg Graffin

Fancy news from Bad Religion frontman Greg Graffin for all you book-learnin’ types.

The punk rock icon has unveiled plans for his third book. It’s called “Population Wars,” and it’s probably best if I let him explain what it’s about (via the publisher, he doesn’t actually speak in third person…we think…):

Life on Earth has been defined by war from the beginning, with war between populations seen as an inevitable part of the evolutionary process. The popular understanding of “the survival of the fittest” explains and often excuses these actions. In Population Wars, Greg Graffin argues that this use of evolutionary theory is wrong, and that mistake has allowed us to justify wars even when other, less violent solutions may be available. Through tales of mass extinctions, developing immune systems, human warfare, the American industrial heartland, and our degrading modern environment, Graffin demonstrates how an over-simplified idea of war, with its victorious winners and vanquished losers, prevents us from responding to the real problems we face.
As a bonus for those that are interested, pre-orders are available here. A limited number of them will come with a bonus 7-inch that features Graffin’s acoustic takes on four songs from the BR canon, all of which Graffin cites as being most influential to the new book. Check out the tracklist below.

“Population Wars” follows up Graffin’s September 2010 book “Anarchy Evolution,” and his December 2010 book “Evolution and Religion: Questioning the Beliefs of the World’s Eminent Evolutionists,” which is effectively a reworking of his doctoral thesis, “Evolution, Monism, Atheism and the Naturalist World View.” Editor’s note: I’ve read them all!
