Check out this premiere of “Just Move On” from Los Angeles punkers Margate, the first signing to El Hefe’s Cyber Tracks label. The song is included on the band’s upcoming self-titled full-length which is due out May 29th.
Margate lead singer/drummer Alex Helbig tells the story of the song:
“This is one of those songs we thought would never get written. Our guitar player Doug had been playing the riff to this song for years but we could never make it work. When it came time to start tracking the new record, we laid down the music we had for it but there were no lyrics or vocal melodies at all. We pushed back ‘Just Move On’ to the very last vocal session we had, and I literally wrote the lyrics the night before we went into the studio to record the vocals. The concept came to me while my wife and I were coming home from a 5 hour road trip and listening to the scratch track to this song, discussing how people always bitch and complain about other people or situations. We asked each other why can’t people just find the good in the people around them or their current situation or just move on? People are who they are, why try to change them? Once I had the concept, the lyrics spilled out of me and within an hour it was done. Funny enough, this song ended up being the band’s favorite song on the record. Our mastering engineer JJ Golden said, ‘the planets were truly aligned on this one’ and we couldn’t agree more.”
