You may recall that in late 2015, Victory Records tried to sue the pants off Streetlight Manifesto frontman Tomas Kalnoky. The label accused the band of breaching their decade-plus-old contract, under which they were required to release four studio albums, and sought over $1,000,000 in damages.
Well, according to a recent post on the band’s Facebook page, the suit has been settled. The two parties released the following joint statement:
“Victory Records and Streetlight Manifesto have amicably settled the litigation filed by Victory in the U.S. District Court in Illinois. After a long and successful run, the parties agreed that it was in their mutual best interests to end the 15 year relationship. As part of the settlement, Victory agreed to sell Streetlight Manifesto all of their master recordings for an undisclosed sum resolving claims that were asserted in the lawsuit. No further comment will be made by either party.”
In a “post-emancipation” update posted today, Streetlight rejoiced at the fact that they are now “100%, top to bottom independent, artist owned, and artist run”. The band also noted they will be hard at work in the coming months.
We’ll keep you posted as details on Streetlight Manifesto’s “new journey of independence” come to light. They will soon be touring the US for Somewhere in the Between‘s 10th anniversary.
