It has been announced that The Bicycle Music Company now has the rights to all recordings released on Nitro Records, an independent punk label owned by The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland. Bands that have released recordings on Nitro include many notable punk bands such as AFI, Jughead’s Revenge, The Vandals, The Damned, TSOL and Guttermouth. The label also reissued The Offspring’s 1989 self-titled debut album on CD for the first time in 1995 and again six years later. Here’s what Dexter had to say about the situation:
“Starting and running Nitro Records has been an amazing experience. I have made some of the best friends of my life at this label and I have had the privilege to put out records by my favorite bands. It is a music catalog that I am insanely proud of! I know Bicycle will carry on Nitro’s legacy and ensure its recordings are well taken care of and available to fans for years to come.”
Steven Salm, Bicycle Music’s Co-President, comments as well:
“Bicycle acquires and represents important master recording rights across all genres. We look forward to demonstrating our commitment to Nitro Records and its roster of artists.”
There have been no announcements whether the end of Nitro will affect the release of the next Offspring album, which will be their first since leaving their longtime label Columbia Records earlier this year.
