Hardcore punk icons Black Flag have announced that they will reunite for at least one performance at this year’s Hevy Fest, which takes place from August 2-4 in Port Lympne Wild Animal Park in Kent, and will mark the first time in 30 years that they played in that country. A post on the official website for Hevy Fest states:
“Celebrating our fifth year this summer, we have been working on some very special appearances for 2013 to mark the occasion.”
They also comment on bringing a reunited version of Black Flag to the festival, “They have undoubtedly had the greatest impact on DIY record distribution, underground touring and hardcore music of any band, before or since. There is a whole generation of musicians and fans that would cite Black Flag as being the most important band to have influenced them, without ever even having the chance to see them perform live, until now.”
Participating in the reunion show is the Jealous Again lineup, which consists of Ron Reyes on vocals, Greg Ginn on guitar, Chuck Dukowski on bass and Roberto “Robo” Valverde on drums. Black Flag currently have no other reunion shows scheduled, although they said that their appearance at the Hevy Fest will be their only UK show this year, indicating that they might play there again in 2014.
Black Flag broke up sometime back in 1986, although many of the former members have reunited occasionally since, including an appearance at the Goldenvoice 30th Anniversary show, which took place at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in December 2011.
