Here’s a fun one for my fellow Lucero fans!
Earlier this year, Ben Nichols and Rick Steff hooked back up with fellow Memphis son Matt Ross-Spang, who produced the full band’s latest three studio albums, Among The Ghosts (2018), When You Found Me (2021) and Should’ve Learned By Now (2023). The trio spent the day at Ross-Spang’s new studio, Southern Grooves, and ran through a bunch of classic Lucero tunes with Nichols on vocals and his trusty Martin acoustic and Steff on the grand piano. The result is Lucero Unplugged, a double LP featuring 20 tracks from across the band’s twenty-five year career:
- In Lonesome Times
- That Much Further West
- When I Was Young
- Texas & Tennessee
- The Prayer
- Diamond State Heartbreak
- Sweet Little Thing
- Slow Dancing
- Among The Ghosts
- Buy A Little Time
- When You Decided To Leave
- Tell Me What It Takes
- Hate & Jealousy
- Hello Sadness
- Darby’s Song
- It Gets The Worst At Night
- My Best Girl
- I Can’t Stand to Leave You
- Nights Live These
- Tears Don’t Matter Much
Pre-orders are available at the Lucero merch store. Album is slated to drop in late January 2025, and you can check out the version of “That Much Further West” below!
