Diesel Boy is a punk band from Santa Rosa, California, formed in 1993. They have released four full-length albums through Fat Wreck Chords imprint label Honest Don’s Records.
California punk veterans Diesel Boy return with their first album in over 20 years! Out now on SBÄM Records, the band’s comeback effort Gets Old sticks to their signature formula of snarky, lowbrow humor set to a melodic punk backing track. Listen to the album below and get it on bitchin’ colored vinyl (or CD!) here (US) / here (EU).
Diesel Boy have announced that they have signed to SBAM Records. The band also stated that they will be releasing a new album in the summer of 2023. The band's statement reads in full, "Though 2023 officially marks our 30th year as a band, we haven’t been active in quite some time. But today we are super psyched to announce that after years and years of sitting on our middle-aged asses, we’re back in the garage and prepping a new record. A hearty and grateful thank you to the fine folks at @sbamrocks for bugging the shit out of us the past few years to make this happen! We can't wait for you to hear what we've been up to." Diesel Boy released Rode Hard and Put Away Wet in 2001.

Dying Scene is fired up to bring you the brand new video from Counterpunch! The Chicago punks put out their latest album, Rewire, last month via Thousand Islands Records and SBAM Records, and today they’ve unveiled the video for the featured track “Judgement Day.” Here’s what the band had to say about the video’s symbolism:
So when I was writing this song I had sort of a comic book fantasy of what this song would look like and then what actually drove the lyrics. It was something along the lines of a god figure showing up to see what its creation has become. Disappointed, the being is trying to decide if it’s time to hit the reset button. Lyrically I wrote this song based on the observations of how folks engage on social media. Wake up, log on and start judging. What that process does to one’s self and how that same place we use to promote and explore is also being used to blame, manipulate and ostracize. The lyrics describe how that world drains on me mentally. “Defeated, beaten, broken and disturbed.” Asking myself over and over “who will save you now from yourself?” I’m trying to highlight the inner struggle to stay plugged in, or remove myself from that world altogether.

California punk supergroup Versus The World have a new record coming out this Friday on SBÄM Records, and guess what?! We’re premiering the album’s final single “The Miserable”, right now! Check it out below, along with details on the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Here’s what singer Donald Spence had to say about “The Miserables”, which features guest vocals from Brenna Red of The Last Gang:
“The Miserable was the last thing we did for the record and it felt like a good way to book-end everything. The lyrics were inspired by the way I had felt about the 14 month lockdown in California. It starts frantic and dark – the minor chords give a bit of an ominous feeling – but by the last chorus it’s much bigger and brighter. I took inspiration from Les Miserables, which I have been lucky enough to see a few times, to make the ending feel the way it does. It was a blast to put all these weird ideas together.”
For the uninitiated, Versus The World’s lineup includes names like Lagwagon guitarist Chris Flippin and Good Riddance drummer Sean Sellers, among others. The band’s new album The Bastards Live Forever releases Friday, May 26th.

The Venomous Pinks are back with another music video from their debut album Vita Mors, out now on SBÄM Records. Dying Scene is pleased to bring you this exclusive premiere of the band’s new video for “Hold On”, starring Jason Cruz from Strung Out! Check it out below.
The song and accompanying video’s storyline follows vocalist and guitarist Drea Doll, unlocking a core childhood memory of an argument between parents. Here’s what she had to say about the songwriting process and filming experience on set:
“Hold On” was always a personal reminder that no matter what you go through, things can get better. The message of the video hits close to home for us. I experienced a similar situation growing up so going through the filming process was very therapeutic and healing for me. To everyone who struggles with suicidal thoughts or has a broken home, you are strong and brave and things will get better.”
“This video really cuts deep. Growing up and witnessing my parents go through a similar experience, and seeing my mom crying you can only do so much as a child. I hope this video can relate to others who come from broken homes Just know that you are not broken. Always give a hug because you never know what someone is going through behind closed doors,” bassist Gaby Kaos adds.
The music video’s arrival coincides with SBÄM Records’ involvement in the Band Fussball Cup, a band-celebrity soccer cup where donations are collected for women’s shelters. The event, taking place this Sunday September 17th in Vienna, Austria, also helps raise awareness about preventing violence against women and children. Go here for more info.
“The video, “Hold On”, was filmed on March 19, 2023 before The Venomous Pinks’ tour with the Bouncing Souls and Anti Flag. During filming, I wore an Anti Flag shirt that was printed by my best friend and bandmates’ printing company, Kaos Merch. The decision to wear this particular shirt was to give a shout out to her business, while also promoting a band whose morals I believed at the time aligned with my own. As a woman, I stand and believe the survivors that were impacted by Justin Sane’s horrific acts. While we were on tour with Anti Flag we did not witness any sexual wrongdoing whatsoever, but as a fellow SA survivor, I will not support anyone who has victimized another person. We didn’t know what we know now. We could have requested to edit the video so the shirt is no longer visible. However, we felt it would be dishonest and disloyal to those who were impacted. That does not align to who we are as individuals and collectively as a band. The foundation of the Venomous Pinks has and will always be built on honesty, transparency, and validity. In that spirit, we present the video as it was originally filmed. We apologize if any of our actions have hurt anyone in the process. Our hearts go out to all survivors. As a band we are so proud of those who have come forward to speak their truth.” – Drea Doll

MEST has had a busy year so far touring across Europe before stopping back home to Chicago…and they are not done yet!
115 Bourbon Street is a New Orleans-themed venue packed with multiple stages and on Friday, June 28th hosted MEST and a slew of other bands, including Rematch, NightCap and Highwire.
MEST released the new album ‘Youth‘ via SBÄM Records on June 21st. It features guest appearances by Jaret Reddick of Bowling For Soup and Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills.
Of the new LP, founding member and front man Tony Lovato says, “The drives to the studio were about an hour and 20 minutes long. A lot of my inspiration for this record was found on those drives. I would just listen to all the records that I grew up listening to. Which brought back a ton of memories. It would just put me in another state of mind. The majority of “Youth” was written up in the hills of Los Angeles where I recorded a bunch of our early records. I would get random flashbacks seeing spots I hadn’t seen in years. But as much as I love all the memories and stories of the past, I’m not one to think that the best days are over. I’m creating new core memories and living my life now, so that in 20 years I’ll look back fondly. The same as I do now. These songs are a cheers to the past with a here’s to the future.”
MEST released their seventh album, ‘Masquerade,’ in January 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic. They toured extensively in 2019 with Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, and Millencolin. Looking ahead, MEST plans to release three new LPs, starting with ‘Youth,’ and has secured deals with Avex Records in Japan and SBAM Records in Europe.
When asked to sum up 28 years of MEST, Tony replied, “I don’t know, I mean honestly it feels like we’re just getting started…”
Maintaining their blue-collar work ethic, MEST continues to earn fans through their grassroots approach and looks forward to performing their energetic live shows worldwide. The future looks promising as they prepare to release new music and hit the road again.
MEST will continue to keep the ball rolling with shows in Mexico this month, followed by some West Coast stops in September.
