Frequent readers here at Dying Scene know that Jonny Craig (pictured at left), frontman for Sacramento post-hardcore band Dance Gavin Dance, has been a lightening rod of controversy over the past year, beginning with the now-infamous MacBook scandal. That may have been just the tip of the iceberg…
Earlier this week, an anonymous Tumblr page was started by someone reporting to be a friend of Jonny’s who claims to have been screwed out of thousands of dollars over the years trying to help Jonny to no avail. The page includes a few lengthy posts that try to get inside the head of an addict (which is damn near impossible to do).
The anonymous writer also posted what he/she reports are a couple of pictures of Jonny actively shooting heroin. We don’t claim to know when the photos are from; they could be from a year ago for all we know. We warn you that they are pretty graphic, but if you’re interested, click here.
DGD went on hiatus for a while at the end of last year, but have since decided to go back out on the road. And while they haven’t kicked Craig out the band due to his ongoing troubles, they have decided that they’re going to tour without him. Here’s a statement from the band (via Twitter):
As some of you have heard today, Jonny Craig will not be doing the upcoming tour with Dance Gavin Dance. Jonny is very sick right now, and needs to do what he can to get better. Being on the road is no place for someone in his position right now. He needs to focus on fixing himself. He has NOT been kicked out of Dance Gavin Dance, but we cannot tour with him in the current state he is in. We still want to continue being productive and playing music that we have so much passion for, which is why we decided to continue with the tour without Jonny. We love Jonny and we hope that Jonny can do what he can to get better, because we have done everything that we can to try to get him clean.
We here at Dying Scene wish DGD the best on the road. More importantly, we wish Jonny the best in hopefully getting some much-needed help and making progress on what we hope will be a road to recovery.
