DS Photo Gallery: Pirates Press 10th Anniversary ‘Rock The Ship’ with Cock Sparrer, Bouncing Souls, Street Dogs, Bum City Saints, and more

If you build it, they will come. Such was the overwhelming mantra as I approached 17th and Wisconsin on an (relatively) early Saturday morning for Pirates Press’ 10th Anniversary ‘Rock The Ship’ party. The day had finally arrived, and I was about to see Cock Sparrer, Bouncing Souls, Street Dogs (and Lenny Lashley’s Gang of One!), Bum City Saints, Suede Razors, Bishops Green, and more sharing the same stage in the city I love and live. Leaving the venue the night before, it was difficult yet anxious to imagine what the block would be transformed into in less than six hours. As I walked to the grounds still feeling a bit haggard from a little Argy Bargy from the night, I heard Cock Sparrer’s sound check to “Riot Squad” and I thought to myself that there could hardly be a better start to a day.

At this point I could go into an in-depth show review of each of the eight bands (minus Smalltown which I missed and will forever hate myself for it), or I could just briefly talk about the day overall, and let the photos tell the story. As I turned the corner onto 16th St where the main entrance was, I was greeted by at least 100 people waiting in line to begin their Saturday in the sun. You really couldn’t ask for better weather and walking in, the block definitely had the air of a proper festival. I grabbed my breakfast beer as I took in the relative calm, anticipating the amazing day ahead.

Lenny Lashley for opener was a brilliant call, as he had just the right amount of grit and energy to enliven the wakening crowd. It’s always great to see the Boston-native belting out heartfelt lyrics as he does best. Often times when I’m behind the camera, the rest of the world is shut out which makes some of my show reviews shite, so I shall let the photos do the talking.

You can check out all photos from the day’s event below (except Cock Sparrer as they will be getting their own gallery).
