It was announced today that Dream Theater drummer, Mike Portnoy, will be assuming drum duty for Avenged Sevenfold’s 2010 summer tour due to the convenience of the end of DT’s touring schedule. The decision came about with the unexpected death of original A7X drummer, James “The Rev” Sullivan, after which Portnoy was selected to record with A7X for their next release (which, apparently, is past the recording phase). Portnoy says that although he wishes he could be a permanent A7X fixture, his primary focus will remain on his “baby,” Dream Theater.
