May 16th marks the international punk rock holiday known far and wide as “Lagwagon Day.” The holiday owes its name to the Lagwagon song “May 16th” from the band’s 1998 album Let’s Talk About Feelings (and from a popular appearance on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2).
But haven’t you always wondered what the significance of May 16th was in the first place? Wonder no more.
It turns out that May 16th marked the wedding date of a friend of Lagwagon frontman Joey Cape. Caper wasn’t invited to the wedding due to a falling out with his friend’s fiance, but he was at a different friend’s house on that day and overheard the wedding celebration. May 16th should have been a special day, but turned in to “just another Saturday.”
Anyway, click here to watch Joey performing an acoustic version of May 16th. And Happy Lagwagon Day!
