Another week, another Band Spotlight on a band that many people have never heard of. Formed in or around 2008, Special C are a band from Redondo Beach, California. Jason “Bubba” McMackin, the brother of Pennywise drummer Byron McMackin, is their drummer but unlike Pennywise these guys don’t play straight up punk rock. They’re a ska punk band that uses roots and reggae elements. The singer’s voice actually reminds me of Rome Ramirez, the dude from Sublime With Rome, and in my opinion, Special C are the Bob Marley and the Wailers of the 21st century. The band has never released an EP or full-length studio album, but you can check out some tunes on their Facebook page including a reggae version cover of Pennywise’s “Bro Hymn”!
