Great Shakes might be comprised of members from Netherlands and Belgium but if I hadn’t read that on their FB page I would have guessed the foursome hailed from New Jersey or Gainesville. From the harmonica on “Get A Little Closer” to the wistful chorus of “Summertime Alone” I’d peg these guys for an Americana punk act with influences ranging from Hot Water Music to Dave Hause. This isn’t the usual uninspired skate punk band you might be getting used to seeing pop out of Europe in recent years. This is soulful, rubber meets the road, punk rock with heart. The band will be releasing a self-titled full-length via Shield Recordings in October and you can get a taste of what’s to come by streaming a few of the tracks ahead of the release below.
