Album Review: Reign Supreme – “Testing The Limits Of Infinite”

reign-supreme-testing-the-limits-of-infiniteThese days the lines between punk, hardcore, and metal have become somewhat blurred. As a result, any band with a breakdown gets slapped with the “metalcore” label. Despite this fact, there are some hold outs in the hardcore scene. The style I am talking about is what bands like Hatebreed and Terror have been doing for quite some time now. Luckily for us, the style continues on as Reign Supreme bring us their latest release, Testing The Limits Of Infinite.

Let me break it down for you. First, the sound. To me this album just has a crunchier and heavier sound than some of the other music that is in the same genre. It just has this gnarling bite that definitely makes you feel the intensity. Next is the fact that this album brings all the elements of modern hardcore to the table. The album is littered with gang vocals, quick circle pit beats, and yes, even some breakdowns all with a slightly darker metal tinge that puts them right on the fence between the two genres, but yet separates Reign Supreme from their peers. Where everyone else is doing syncopated double bass ridden breakdowns, Reign Supreme keeps it a little simpler but still brings the mosh though this may put off some listeners who aren’t into that sort of thing.  If you are, however, this record rocks and you should definitely check it out.
