Lovelorn, conversation-like lyrics, idiosyncratic vocal style, and a healthy nod to any number of old-school indie pop and shoegaze acts; Smalltalk crafts pop songs layered in noise, distortion, and drone.
Having spent most of 2013 writing and practicing in a Neptune City basement, the band moved operations in December to Little Eden Studios in Asbury Park, where they recorded their debut 3 song EP. The mixing sessions were immediately followed by a video shoot for their first single, “Fountain of You”, shot on Roosevelt Beach by local videographer, Matthew Geer, on one of the coldest mornings of the year.
With the release of the video, Smalltalk gained immediate attention from local radio station DJ, Jeff Raspe, who began playing the single, and later premiered the track “Go Love” on his 90.5 The Night show “Fresh Tracks”. The “Fountain of You” single also caught the ear of renown editor and publisher, Jack Rabid, and was featured on his 300th episode of Big Takeover Radio.
On April 11th, Smalltalk made their first live appearance at the Asbury Park Yacht Club. It was also be the first time the debut EP was made available. The 12” vinyl record was pressed in the very limited quantity of only 100 copies. A follow EP has already been recorded and will be released this summer.
