SST Records is an American indie record label formed in 1978 in Long Beach, California, by punk musician Greg Ginn. Ginn repurposed a electronics company he had founded when he was twelve into a record label to release material by his band Black Flag. SST helped spearhead the nationwide network of underground bands that formed the underground indie rock scene of the 80s. Initially focused on releasing material by SoCal hardcore groups, SST expanded its catalogue to release many key albums that were instrumental in the development of American alternative rock, including releases by the Minutemen, Hüsker Dü, Bad Brains, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, and Dinosaur Jr.
