Big D and the Kids Table and djBC cover “Reading Rainbow” theme song

Boston ska-punk stalwarts Big D & The Kids Table recently recorded a stroll version of the Reading Rainbow theme song, then teamed up with djBC to create a remix of the track. The cover was recorded to support Reading Rainbow host’s LeVar Burton’s recent Kickstarter campaign to bring the massively popular children’s program back to television.

Big D front-man Dave McWane and djBC both explained their decision to cover the song. You can read their explanations and listen to the songs below.

When Big D and the Kids Table was in the studio, recording the Reading Rainbow theme song to help support their KickStarter campaign…we all buzzed with childhood excitement. Big smiles; loud sing alongs. Of course Big D grew up on Reading Rainbow, staring up at LeVar’s magical world that he still to this day shares. But to play the song, sing the words and hopefully do our part to bring this world to a new generation, well that just means everything. We know LeVar’s quest to bring Reading Rainbow back will be a success, because frankly everyone who has seen Reading Rainbow loves it. It’s important. We believe in LeVar’s idea to modernize the show for the modern day child and look forward to seeing it’s return.

Big thanks from Big D,

– David McWane

I am a child of the 70s and 80s, so I remember Reading Rainbow fondly- but I am also a Dad now, with three kids, all learning to read and just getting interested in books. The positive and empowering message Reading Rainbow gives kids- to take charge of their own minds, and through that, their own reality- is truly inspiring. And I really appreciate the work RR does to get their joyful message to the kids that need it most. So, I did a mashup, something fun- in the hopes that we can draw a little bit more attention to this worthy Kickstarter campaign!
