DS Exclusive: For The Record (ffo: Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish) premiere new EP, “The Mess They Call My 20’s”

Here’s a new one for all you happy dancers out there, filled with quirky tunes, and timeless scenarios, replete with an energy not uncommon to the genre (Third Wave) and stuffed to the brim with gooey brass goodness like a crispy cheese stick ready to burst hot lava all over the roof of your totally expecting but super impatient palate. It’s time to shake off those skankin’ boots and hit the dance floor with a little one-two one-two, and if you get knocked down, just skank on up again. That’s just the mess they call “life”.

Here’s a new dish from central Cali ska-punkers, For The Record, all about those coming-of-age years that I like to call “second puberty”. It can be a confusing time for a young rudey, with so many falling victim to the pizza plague third-wave ska resurgence of the 90’s. (Which of course led to the oft-not discussed pepperoni shortage of the early-’00s.) For The Record are a new era sextet of true believer practitioners attempting to keep the sounds fresh going into the 2020’s… and yeah, you’re seeing this clearly. That’s 3x the 20’s.

The Mess They Call My 20’s is due out tomorrow (7/19/19) on Manic Kat Records, but the band wanted to reach out and give all you Dying Scene homies a nod and a shake before then so you can go and tell all your friends about this super-cool, awesome-dope jam that you were in on a day early because you’re a super-cool-awesome spaz-matic uber-music-dweeb. (Like me.) The Mess They Call My 20’s is the band’s second EP in as many years and showcases “a melting pot of expression and enthusiasm developed over eight years and three promising records.” Fondu-bitably… I know, I know. I’m so cheezy.
