Alternative/punk rock legends The Replacements have apparently announced a reunion and are recording an EP of song covers.
The EP, which will be released as a limited edition 10-inch record limited to just 250 copies, will be auctioned online with the proceeds going to Replacements guitarist, Slim Dunlap, who suffered a stroke earlier this year. In regards to both Slim’s condition and new music, frontman Paul Westerberg states:
“He’s in rough shape. He’s sort of paralyzed, he can move his leg a little bit. When I mentioned this, it seemed like something he really wanted to happen. ‘You guys get together,’ he said in a whisper. ‘Go play a song.'”
The Replacements called it quits in 1991 after twelve years, spanning seven full-length studio albums (the last being 1990’s All Shook Down), a live album and an EP.
