Huh. This is news to me, but apparently H20 frontman Toby Morse heads up an organization called One Life One Chance that is aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and discouraging kids from getting involved with drugs and alcohol. To help raise awareness Blink 182 drummer, Travis Barker is getting involved, donating several drum kits to a handful of schools in NYC to promote healthy alternatives to self-destructive behavior; his clothing brand, Famous Stars and Straps, is also getting involved with the cause.
“I love and support what Toby is doing for the youth,” Barker says. “It’s good that these kids can see that not every rock star is a drug addict and he is such a positive, all-around role model for them.”
Barker, who lost his good friend DJ A.M. to a drug overdose in August 2009, can certainly relate; He hopes that through the OLOC, kids will see that “they can be drug free and be cool too.”
“Most people that come and speak at a school are immediately written off by the kids, but Toby looks like them and they can relate to him,” the drummer says. “I am getting involved to help any school Toby speaks at that is in need of instruments and/or a music program.”
“Toby’s passion is undeniable and sincere, and understanding that kids all across America may benefit from Toby’s message, we wanted to provide any support we could,” Barker says. “If it’s providing promotional goods or helping him get to schools who cant afford to have a speaker, we understand that Toby’s message of PMA (positive mental attitude) and way of life is something we all could use.”
