After two albums and an EP, How To Use a Semicolon is a statement of purpose for Le Big Zero and a homecoming of sorts for singer Carolina Aguilar, returning to the microphone after stepping away to focus on motherhood. She and Pasuit instantly fell back into writing, buoyed by their shared sense of humor. Aguilar’s time away seems only to have strengthened her vocals, with her emotive alto bringing an unmistakable depth to each track, whether carrying melodies alone or weaving in and out of tight harmony with Pasuit.
On How To Use a Semicolon, Le Big Zero may ultimately not offer grammatical instruction. But over only three tracks and 12 minutes, they adeptly harness the power and possibilities of rock music to great effect, unafraid to explore different corners of the canvas with creativity and passion. It’s a sound that rejects the trappings of pop and ends up equally accessible and satisfying on the other side.
