Joey Briggs releases “Better Off Dead” to raise money and awareness for good cause

The Briggs frontman Joey Briggs has just released a new song, with a little story behind it.

The track is entitled “Better Off Dead” and has been released to raise awareness and money for the son (Maceo) of some close friends. The child is undergoing some physical hardships, and despite everything has exhibited an incredible amount of strength and bravery. You can read more about Maceo’s struggle, and how to donate here.

The Briggs are currently working on a new album, the follow-up to 2008′s “Come All You Madmen” released on Side One Dummy Records. The band most recently released a new single entitled “Panic” on iTunes in May 2012.

Brand new unreleased song for a good cause.

I have a song I’ve wanted to release for awhile and I’m glad I waited because an opportunity to do some real good has come about.

Here’s the story: 4 years ago, my dear friends Joe and Holly gave birth to their beautiful son, Maceo, shortly before my own daughter was born. Maceo has Cerebral Palsy and I’ve seen an amazing amount of strength and love for the past 4 years from this family. For the past 2 years, he has been undergoing extensive physical therapy and it was uncertain whether or not he would ever be able to walk.

Recently, a rare opportunity came up for Maceo to work directly with Ramón Cuevas, the creator of an innovative therapy, at his center in Santiago, Chile. This intensive program is designed to help Maceo attain a level of physical strength and coordination in just 2 weeks that would otherwise likely take years to achieve. The ultimate goal is to have him walking on his own!

When I saw they were trying to raise $15,000 to help their son have the chance to walk, I wanted to do whatever I could to help them achieve their goal. I decided that I would release my newest single and donating every single penny for the first month of sales to Maceo. After their goal is reached, all proceeds will go to standwithmaceo.com, their project to educate, raise awareness to treatments and offer inspiration to other families with children that have Cerebral Palsy.

The song is now available only on joeybriggs.bandcamp.com so if anyone cares to donate more than than the 99 cents for the song, that option will be available.
