This week marks 20 years since the release of Bad Religion‘s seventh full-length studio album Recipe for Hate, which was (technically) their first release on a major label. To commemorate this anniversary, Stereogum wrote a lengthy column about Recipe for Hate, which focuses on the making of the album, its musical direction and success.
Recipe for Hate was originally released on June 4, 1993 on Epitaph, and was reissued on Atlantic a few months later. Thanks to the reissue, the album peaked position at #14 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and the airplay of the singles “American Jesus” and “Struck a Nerve” made Bad Religion one of the most successful punk rock acts of the 90’s.
