Fun Factoid Friday: Fat Wreck Chords’ unique deal structures

Every Friday the punk rock geniuses here at Dying Scene are going to unleash a little bit of punk scene trivia all over your asses. Today’s “fun factoid” is about punk rock’s most well known label, Fat Wreck Chords.

Fat Wreck Chords has built some serious brand loyalty the 20 or so years it has been running.  For the fans it was built by putting out consistently good records from bands that more or less adhere to what has become know as the “Fat sound”.  But the fans aren’t the only ones loyal to Fat.  Most of the bands are just as committed to sticking with the label and that’s proven through Fat’s somewhat unique record-deal structures.  Unlike most labels, Fat only does one record deals meaning the bands working with Fat Wreck Chords have a choice as to if and when they want to put a record out on the label.  Considering the number of bands who have put out their entire catalog with the label I’d say they must be doing something right…
