Every Friday the punk rock geniuses here at Dying Scene are going to unleash a little bit of punk scene trivia all over your asses. Today’s “fun factoid” is about current Street Dog vocalist Mike McColgan and the other famous band where he got his start:
Besides being frontman for Boston punk act Street Dogs, Mike McColgan was also a founding member of Dropkick Murphys. Formed in 1996 with current DKM bassist/vocalist Ken Casey, the band began playing in the basement of a friends barbershop in Quincy, Massachusetts. Realizing that people really enjoyed their music, they began recording and touring. Shortly after the release of their debut album Do or Die in 1998, Mike left the band to pursue his lifelong dream of being a Boston firefighter. After leaving the fire department, he formed Street Dogs and have released 4 full lengths since 2003 with another currently due out later this year.
