Green Day plan vinyl re-issue of “Kerplunk” and “39 Smooth”

Green Day seem to be trying to get back to their early punk (and less rock-operatic) roots for 2012. The new music they’ve debuted at recent surprise live gigs ranks as some of their ‘most punk’ (whatever that means) in years.

Now the trio are teaming with Epitaph for a reissue of their first full-lenghts, 1990’s “39 Smooth” and 1992’s “Kerplunk,” on vinyl in the near future. Not sure how these differ from the vinyl reissues that Reprise Records dropped a couple years ago, but it’s cool nonetheless. Click here for all the pre-order info.

Green Day’s last studio release was 2009’s “21st Century Breakdown.” A new full-length seems imminent for next year, but no firm details have surfaced yet.
