Johnny Ramone memoirs to be published as posthumous autobiography

8 years after his death, punk rock icon Johnny Ramone will have his memoirs published as a posthumous biography. The book will feature a forward by bandmate Tommy Ramone, the only remaining original member of the band, and an epilogue by Lisa Marie Presley.

According to Ramone’s wife Linda, the book was originally planned to be a collection of friends writing their own memories of Johnny, but she made the decision to only include her husband’s work: the memoirs he began writing when diagnosed with cancer.

“It didn’t make Johnny Ramone’s book more powerful by having other people in the book talking about him,” she said. “This is nobody else’s story. This is Johnny Ramone’s story, talking about Johnny Ramone.”

He continued to write through even the worst of his chemotherapy treatments, according to Linda. (For more comments on the book’s production, head over here.

Johnny passed away in 2004 at the age of 55 after a five-year battle with prostate cancer. The book is set to be released on April 2nd via Abrams Books.
