Following a screening of the new Jawbreaker documentary last night in New York City, frontman Blake Schwarzenbach participated in a little Q&A session. When asked whether the band has any plans to release a new album, he said they are “trying to” write new music.

Jawbreaker’s last album Dear You was released 22 years ago, so to say fans have been patiently waiting for a new record would be an understatement. The band reunited earlier this year and will be playing Chicago’s Riot Fest next month.

If you put a few musicians into a room together, it’s almost guaranteed that they’re going to start playing together.  Sometimes that just amounts to late nights, too much booze and some crappy Avail covers around a campfire, but sometimes everything clicks and a new band surfaces from behind the empty PBR cans.

That’s the case with New Haven, Connecticut’s The Ratz, a pure punk rock effort that started with three friends having fun, and ended with Broken Bottles, Broken Bones, a 10-track album that was released this year on Die Hipster! Records.  Keep reading below to read more and stream the album.

Introducing Tragically Under-Covered Pop-Punk Act: Heart & Lung (full album stream – highly recommended)

If I had come across this band a little sooner I might have signed them to Dying Scene Records. Instead I’ll just have to content myself with introducing them as my favorite pop-punk discovery of the year. Heart & Lung hale from Cleveland, Ohio and recently self-released their debut full-length “You Wanna Know The Truth?”. I’ll let the music speak for itself (stream below) but if I had to give an elevator pitch on the band’s sound I’d say, “Think a little more sentimental, sincere Direct Hit!.” If you’ve only got time for one song I’d recommend the album’s title track – it gave me goosebumps. Now stop reading this and start listening!
