Planes Mistaken For Stars, formerly of No Idea Records, is to getting back together to play Fest 9 this Halloween weekend in Gainesville, FL. They’ll also be playing a gig in Chicago shortly beforehand. Get the full statement from the band and all the details on the shows here.
PMFS performed a surprise reunion last October at The Fest 8 during the Hawks & Doves set when bassist Chuck French and his band, Git Some, joined singer Gared O’Donnel on stage to perform a few songs to a shocked crowd, venue and festival organizers. You can watch them performing “To Spit A Sparrow” from that set here.

Gerad O’Donnell had this to say about playing again since their somewhat demise in February of 2008:
“ PLANES is getting together for some shows for a variety of reasons. The main catalyst being that Var (owner of No Idea Records) said, ‘Please play the No Idea 25th Year Anniversary at the Fest 9 in Gainesville,’ but I suppose people need a story – a little fat to nibble on. In all honesty, PLANES didn’t really break up. It was more the whole life-kept-getting-in-the-way thing, so we just stopped. We always felt if we were going to do it then we need do it balls deep! After all, the tip is just a tease. Keeping that in mind, we also miss each other. We miss the songs! With closer inspection and a little hindsight, they make more sense to us now than when we wrote them. We will be playing what we can remember, but almost assuredly nothing we wrote when we were 19. It just feels creepy. I can’t sing like a little boy who smokes too much anymore, but I can sing like a grown ass man who is a bit too sensitive and/or surly and smokes too much. So please come get loose with us!!! In the meantime, take care of each other! Luv, Gared and the rest of Planes”
